So, I saw that the upcoming banners are Navia and Ayaka and then Raiden and Yoimiya

Based off my roster on page 5 (With Furina and Freminet added), which one should I save for? I would like to go for fave instead of meta and go for Yoimiya but since I'm lacking ALOT of 5*s... which would probably actually be the most useful?

Raiden > Ayaka (My favorite character in the game, but you have Ganyu so freeze DPS not as pressing, and you have none of the good supporting cast for Ayaka anyways) > Yoimiya

No clue on Navia.

Raiden you'd only need to grab Bennett and you'd have a top tier team in Raiden National.

Based on your roster I'd rank them as Raiden >= Yoimiya > Ayaka ~= Navia

Navia's hard to rank since she's not released yet, but I think the general consensus based on leaks is that she is just okay. Ayaka is strong but wants other 5*s such as Kazuha, Shenhe and Kokomi for her optimal teams, and is generally less effective against bosses and other enemies that can't be frozen. Yoimiya is a solid single-target dps but can struggle vs groups of enemies. If you did get her, you could group her with XQ, Fischl and either Thoma or Layla for shielding. Raiden is the most 'meta' from from that group and is commonly used in the aforementioned Rational team, though you'd still want to get Bennett for that team.

Id probably need a lot more books than I have if I leveled characters to 90/90, but I dont so its not an issue.

As a launch star rail player, I know that max level there is kinda feasible and necessary for the higher MoC stuff but iirc, there's no real reason to ever go past 80 in this, right? Is it even really worth the grind to ascend to 80-90?

Some characters benefit heavily from going to 90.

HP and EM scaling characters specifically.

Attack scalers don't benefit from it that much

Its my understanding that it benefits characters that utilize EM and HP scaling. However, thats entirely for the purpose of beating Abyss floor 12. Ive had no issues with any other content.

Final ascension is almost always worth it to unlock a stat upgrade and lv9/lv10 talents.

It depends on character. HP/DEF scalers and characters who transform stats generally like lv90. Bloom and quicken need lv90 on trigger (all electro/dendro units in quicken teams, the electro in hyperbloom, the hydro units in Nilou bloom). Anemo units with VV want lv90.

Ascension gems? It's primarily a newbie problem, because events and weeklies supply them little by little and then you transform colors.

I have like eight or nine people at 80 so

So if I have my main party people at 80 and all talents generally around ~6 for each and weapons ranging from 70-80, which is probably most important to focus on between leveling to 90, leveling weapons to 90, getting talents higher, or getting the best artifact sets? I have the right 4/4s on like half the people but since that's a huge grind that's really rng....

Focus on raising all your weapons to lv90, wherever there is benefit from doing so.
Healers and buffers might not need it, but DPSes usually do.
Weapons are the easiest to level up and bring good base stat buffs.

After that it's talents, you can safely consider lv6 the bare minimum for useful talents, feel free to leave useless ones at lv1 if you wish. lv8 is recommended for strong abilities, lv9 and lv10 may take you a very long time.

After that, consider getting the final ascension on characters who benefit greatly (your primary damage dealer), and lv89 or 90 if that greatly benefits you (quicken dps, bloom trigger).

Artifacts will be the greatest bonus to your character's power, by a huge margin. But be prepared to grind each character for at least a month. Good artifacts are extremely rare and then RNG can screw you over and ruin the artifact while you upgrade it.
Make sure you understand how to choose your characters' stats.

I don't know your adventurer rank, but generally artifacts should always be gold rarity, they should always have the correct main stat (first one), they should always be +20 when you plan to seriously use that piece. It's very desirable to have the correct 4set or 2+2set bonus for your character, but what's even more important are the substats. Having the right substats with the right upgrades will frequently lead to a better artifact than forcing yourself to get the correct set.

Unless you're trying to 3* Abyss 12, there's honestly no need to get characters to 80. I only have two characters at 80, and that's purely due to simping.

This game is so massive with so much to do. I've logged 300+ hours since July, and I'm no where near done yet. About to start Fontaine, but I have plenty of stuff from the other nations I haven't finished yet.

It really is. I wonder how many hours I have logged. Since I main on PC I think I have to email Mihoyo and ask to be able to know haha. And I'm kind of scared to know...

All I know is about half of my time is spent logged in chilling at the regional city I'm doing quests in with the game in the background

Why do people say this? It's Star Rail that is the side project and Genshin is the worldwide success.

That's why Mihoyo is taking risks like this with SR but playing safe with Genshin.

Another issue is Genshin became too large and the combat system is extremely difficult to balance charracters for without legit ruining the game through power creep. It's an action combat system with reactions and dodging.
Meanwhile Star Rail is a mere turn-based RPG. You want to force people to use healers, it's as simple as increasing enemy damage, speed and accuracy.

Apparently their doing it to get people to come back due to HSR's revenue dropping; that probably won't stop GI players from seething about it though.

Yeah, gacha devs are only generous when they have to be. Says a lot about Genshin when Mihoyo thinks they can afford such low rates together with low free roll income and effectively no worthwhile anniversary / publicity rewards.

I just roll my eyes when I see people acting like other gacha games that give more rewards for events are "more generous" or "care about their players more." What a crock of shit. Gacha games exist to make money, that's the goal of all of them. Any game that is giving you stuff is hoping that this will make them more money in the long run somehow. If Genshin is giving us less stuff than other games, it's because they've calculated that they don't need to give much away in order to make money.

I mean, I have to admit it's true in my case. Would I like to get bigger anniversary rewards in Genshin? Sure I would. Does it affect whether or not I play it? Nope. I'm not going to play a game that is boring (to me) just because they give me more 5 star characters.

It's not a stretch since Genshin *was* a side project at launch before blowing up. It wasn't the expectation at all.

Also what the devs want and what the suits want is often different

It wasn't? Then why did they spend more than $100 million in it right from the start? Why did they have it on multiple platforms? Why did they pay to have it translated into 10+ languages, with full voice acting for four of them?

Seems like a big investment for a "side project" that you don't think is going to become a big deal.

Are others quitting for the same reason I did, a month after launch? The first story arc was great and all but one planet a year with a VERY small amount of exploration just wasn't gonna do it for me. And it's more grindy, which I got worn out on, as it's turn-based and I can't skimp on on gear the way I do with Genshin.

That's probably a factor. People have also made the point that HSR has to compete with other similar turn-based gachas while they essentially have a monopoly on open-world ARPG ones. The various 'Genshin killers' that have popped up so far have all sucked to some degree afaik.

This is the part that makes no sense to me. People keep making these comparisons between games as if more rolls or whatever is some major draw. I play Genshin because I like playing the game

You'd be surprised how many people reinstall or log back into a gacha game just because they're doing a giveaway like this or when anniversary goes on. I used to do it with Granblue when they'd do those roulette wheel events LOL. Otherwise I stopped touching it, the grind wore me down and I hear it's even worse these days, sadly.

This is a really good point, too. Even just compared to another TB gacha like Another Eden, I prefer Another Eden.
