Always use it, then add 30 seconds or else there are too many unpopped kernels

I never use it. Every microwave I had always burnt the popcorn. Instead I learned to gauge when to stop by listening to the pops the bag makes.

The popcorn button is the only way the popcorn does not get burnt and pops most if not all the kernels.

I just set the timer and listen to the pops. It even tells you on the bag to listen for the pops to slow down.

^That's how you do it.

You set the timer for 5 minutes and then pull the bag out when the popping slows down.

It depends entirely on your wattage. If you have some small microwave that is like 600 watts it will probably under pop. If you have an 1100 watt microwave I find its usually too much and burns the popcorn. Even going by the time on the popcorn bag itself has to be adjusted depending on your wattage.

The best way is just to listen to the frequency of the pops and when it starts to slow down.

I'll set popcorn for like 2-3 minutes and then just stop it once it's popping less than every second.

Also I think a lot of people forget you can adjust the power settings of the microwave too.

Haven't made popcorn in the microwave in years; last time might have been at my parents when that's all they had.
I pop on the stove top. Everything about it is better, except speed. It's cheaper, you control the amount of kernels and butter and it tastes so much more fresh and better. That's worth the extra ten minutes.

On mine, I have to subtract ~ 30 seconds or it's scorched.

My last one got Costco popcorn perfect though. RIP.
