I never ever do microtransactions or season passes but i paid an extra $20 for Diablo IV early access and $30 for Starfield

pound for pound its a good ROI for me. I could spend Saturday night at a bar and drop $70 for a hangover
Or $30 for a long weekend of entertainment in videogame space. It helps that im also pre paying for the first dlc

On the other hand, it creates an incentive to add arbitrary 1 week delays to games and is probably a bummer for folks who are excited for the game but cant drop extra money

So

Its not a great practice but i'll probably keep participating for high profile games

Couldn't you have just spent that 30 on a different game this weekend and do Starfield some other weekend

For games like BG3 and Last Epoch yeah
They arent charging extra and you get more than a week of EA

But Bethesda wasnt about to run out of cash between 9/1 and 9/6

If there was another game i particularly wanted to play right now
But i have limited gaming time so i try to focus on just the ones im really excited about

If it includes future expansion packs it's fine and I don't care. I can see the temptation working out there.

Id never pay money JUST for early access. If its a bunch of other stuff and also early access, sure.

Like with the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 im paying for the upcoming DLC which im gonna want to buy anyway and a few extra bonuses along with early access, so I figure why not.

I don't mind it at all considering the gap is pretty small and there's other enticements to go along with it.

Like in the case of Starfield I pay $30 extra to play the game over the course of the labor day weekend (where I have every day off) and I get the first expansion for free (when the expansion is likely to cost $20)

You nailed it for me. Im fine with, even prefer EA for games like that or darkest dungeon 2 and stuff.

Not a fan of 1 week EA for a premium though

a scam that publishers have now normalized. starfield was the final nail. gg.
