The "known racists" already use their cronies to commit acts of violence through stochastic terrorism. The most effective way to combat racist violence is to target those individuals and the groups who support them for censure, censorship, and imprisonment.

Known racist needs to be defined first.

losing rights because of beliefs is the first step to crafting dystopian society. Especially a trait that is in inherent to most people like racism, which is the concept of implicit bias.

Unless this topic is just a roundabout way of saying should everyone lose access to weapons, then sure why not

Yeah it can be abused. I'd say if it where to be done only convicted criminals should have the right stripped. Like convicted of a hate crime. Convicted felons already lose the right.

No argument here. Tbh, that's probably true of everyone in general. But that isn't reality, or realistic, and laws that start saying who can or can't own guns because of ideals is more likely than not going to end up doing more harm overall than good.

Making the claim that racists shouldn't be able to own guns is well intentioned, even agreeable, but naive as hell when you start thinking about how a law like that would(nt) work.

Strikes me more as a thing to say online to look a certain way than as something practical.

Its probably not nearly as difficult as you think. I get it that there is a legitimate slippery slope here, but I obviously don't think we send the fbi through windows to confiscate weapons from someone's home if they made a micro aggression towards a coffee batista.

We can just ban nazi paraphernalia and designate nazi groups as terrorist groups and take the guns away from known members of those groups after rigorous investigation.

Its also important to recognize that while we should consider hypothetical possibilities of what taking these guns away from hate groups could mean for everyone else, that on the other side of this equation its not a hypothetical. The nazis are already doing mass shootings and are already using threats of violence to influence our politics and elections. They literally are terrorists by definition.

Yeah, a disturbing number of people have basically said they'll shoot law enforcement if they try to take their guns.

The first steps at least should be to tighten gun regulations and make it harder for unhinged people to stockpile a ton of guns in the first place. But it would have to be nationwide to have any meaningful effect. Otherwise they can just travel to a more lax state and stock up anyway.
