Board 8 > Before I restart Pokemon Emerald, is it worth it to replace the battery?

I've looked up how to do it and it looks like a lot more work that I'm willing to do and wondering if it's actually worth it to get the clock working again.

Last night for shits and giggles, before calling it on my current file, I decided to do something I never did before on that game - hunt for Feebas. Took me less than 15 minutes. I'd say that balances out my shiny luck through the years.

It's not crucial to the game or anything, without the clock your berries won't grow (so planting them is a waste) and a few other daily events (lottery, berry hand-outs) will only happen once. Actually speaking of Feebas I think this makes it kind of hard to evolve. You won't be able to go to Mirage Island either. Still almost everything in the game works, I've replayed Gen 3 a couple times without the battery and it didn't change the experience very much.

That's not technically true. If you were lucky enough to have Mirage Island spawn when the clock stopped, it'll always be there from then on.

Yeah, I suggest this. Emerald on an emulator lets you get all 386 Pokemon through Gen 3 and some versions are considerably tougher. Also no worries about a clock battery.

FWIW I've run Pokemon games on my phone before so they're still portable, but can't elaborate any further.

Weird my copy of Emerald won't even keep the save now that the battery inormal. It erases everything when it turns off.

First time I'd ever had a cartridge battery die so I figured that was nomral.

This topic is reminding me that I better get through my GBA games that I still want to play soon because know who knows how much longer the batteries in them will last.

A lot of GBA games use flash memory rather than a battery based save, so those should be good for a while. That's why your save file doesn't get erased when the battery dies in RSE. The battery only saves the clock; everything else is flash memory.

You can probably take it to your local repair shop and they will do it for free if you bring your own battery. It's seriously easy.

That is good to know. I found my copy of Emerald, booted it up, and sure enough I got the message that the internal battery has dried up but my save file is still there.

It will be impossible to get Milotic. The berries you can find in the wild don't have a good enough beauty to sheen ratio, and your Feebas would get full before its beauty stat is high enough to evolve. The berries needed to evolve Feebas are received from the Berry Master or by talking to Kiri in Sootopolis. The problem is that they give you berries 'once a day.' So not only will your berries not grow, if you could get them, but you can't even get them in the first place, because it's a daily event.

It also won't be possible to use the Blend Master to turn low quality berries you find during the campaign into high quality Pokeblocks. Because his appearance is triggered by checking the TV which is also a daily event.

For basically all of the same reasons listed above regarding Milotic, it will be extremely difficult (if not impossible) for you to participate in the Contests. Although it's possible I might be forgetting something. I'm more familiar with R/S. Maybe there's a method in Emerald that allows you to get the higher quality berries, infinitely, with no daily events needed.

Can we really still not talk about emulation on here?
