Ah, I never pay any attention to badges so I did not know that was there. Apparently I'll have 15 years on December 1st.

When I got my laptop for college. Only played Portal on it, it wasn't great for gaming. Although I definitely could've made more use out of it when I first got it. I just wasn't used to PC gaming yet.

I've had my account for several years, but I don't do a whole lot of gaming on PC. Mainly just Slay the Spire and other games I like to use mods on.

Maybe 7-10 years. I've never been that much of a PC gamer (my friends use Steam far more regularly), but I've enjoyed Steam for Civilization V, Terraria, Portal, Slay the Spire, Left 4 Dead and loads of indie games.

I got Half Life 2 not long after release (not really sure when) and it was the first game I had that required Steam. I made an account and installed HL2 to it and played through it.

at some later point I was forced to use Steam again (possibly to play Portal) and I made another account, forgetting about the first one. this second account became my main account and I've been using Steam consistently since then. my copy of HL2 remains stuck on the other account.

13 according to the badge.

I voted 11-12 because my purchase history only goes back to 2011, but I did buy Mount & blade in a physical store because it required a steam account. That must've been in 2010.

I only bought a handful of games between 2011 and 2013, 2014 was when I really started using steam.

Because I loathe gaming on PC, and even if I didn't I'd prefer to use a service like GoG.

Actually, I'd prefer to buy games on disc in a box, but I've been outvoted.

The very few PC games I have played I either bought back when they still came in boxes, or were acquired... quasi-legally.

13 years. I remember signing up specifically so could buy/play Doom 3 because of some sale. I was also one of the early "Linux gaming" adopters, and I remember having to jump through some interesting hoops to get Steam running in Wine, and have Doom launch the Linux version since it was still another 2 years before Steam officially made a Linux client.

Now I have like 1300 games in my collection.

According to my profile, since 2008, when I got The Orange Box. I didn't start using it to buy and play other games until about 2010, though. Specifically, the Halloween sale that year, when I bought Plants vs. Zombies and Bioshock for a total of $10 and thought that was the best deal ever, then I spent another $25ish in the black friday sale following that and the backlog began to grow.

Windows is DRM since you need it in order to use a computer properly. Or any other OS.

You've made this argument before, and it hasn't gotten any less ridiculous. DRM restricts how software can be used. An OS is an intrinsic requirement to use the computer at all.

Think of DRM like a lock: It prevents you from opening the door unless you're supposed to (or bypass it). Without a lock, anyone can open the door. The OS is more analogous to the doorway. It's needed to go through the wall. Without a doorway, you can't go through the wall, not because you aren't allowed, but because you physically can't.
