There's a park about 15-20 minutes away that's absolutely infested with them. I went on a 1 mile walk and saw about 20 trees/stumps just covered with them.

Nothing that bad outside of the park but they're still everywhere. Worst part is they've been established for like 5 years and all we're told is to just "step on them if we see them". Nothing more.

that's so fucking gross. i hate stepping on bugs, esp big ones. i just run away when i see them

Where are you? They're an extremely invasive species and are spreading at a rapid pace. If it's your first time seeing them, they have made landfall in your area and there to stay. It's recommended that you kill any LFs you see but, it's already too late if you're seeing them.

I'm in the northeast edge of Philly by Andalusia and our first sightings were in summer 2020.
2019 and before: not a single Lanternfly
2020: Absolute infestation. Now they're here every year absolutely everywhere
