Much more interesting concept than Harry Potter. Especially if it is allowed to live long enough to do crossovers with the Romans, Norse and Egyptians

I've never seen the movies or read the books but I talked to my nephew about the franchise once. He told me about the world it's set in and all the different schools based on different pantheons

I might watch this

Just from the trailer alone it's 90% closer to the books then the movies. Even more then other books adapted to movies or TV. I'm honestly excited to watch it.

From reading the original Book authors comments, the script not only deviated from the source material and was clearly written by someone who missed the "points" in the books, but he mentioned it was just a bad script in general. No matter good of a director you are, you won't be able to make a good movie with a crappy script.

They had better have a trans character.

I can understand people needing a surrogate for Harry Potter in lieu of J.K. Rowling's apparent fanatical hatred of trans people. But it's not going to make much of a difference if this property doesn't include the individuals whom J.K. would exclude.

You could make the argument "at least it's not money going to a bigot," but some of Disney's stocks are owned by the Saudi Arabian government. Your money is still going to the mistreatment of LGBTQ individuals. And that's probably the case when you purchase ketchup; let alone when you invest in entertainment media.

Oh 100%. I don't crucify people for liking what they love. I'll be the biggest hypocrite because a lot of stuff I love has been created/made from really shitty people themselves. My wife is a potterhead because she grew up with the property and it helped her get through tough times. I mean shit, her 2 best friends are trans (FtM) are also huge Potterheads that hate JK Rowling as well but love Harry Potter. I meant to say it in a more tongue in cheek light, but my dislike for Harry Potter as a character got me (lol) and JK Rowling being a transphobe was more icing on the cake. Like shit, I was here on CE saying the Hogwarts Legacy boycott was more counter productive than actually helping the cause (which was honestly one of the dumbest controversy I ever debated in ever and I regret it).

There's a gay character in the Percy Jackson series, though if I recall he doesn't come out until the secondary series. But he's a kid, so it's understandable to wait until he's not like 12. I don't think there's a trans character in the Percy stuff, though there is one in the Norse books.

Ah that makes more sense. I really enjoy Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson but he's an absolute shit person. Homophobic and he lives right here in utah. Hell even Lovecraft was intensely racist and homophobic but I love his work. It really sucks that a lit of good works are written by such hateful people.

He's pretty homophobic claims not to be but then says all the usual stuff homophobes say like marriage is between a man and woman and all that garbage bs. He teaches at BYU and was one of the people against allowing gay people to attend BYU.

I like Lovecraft's Doom that came to Sarnath. Short, meaningful if you read into it, then the end it goes pow. Some stories he wrote doesnt have racism in them at all. Then some its out and out. Cuthulu and rural area with the "garbage monster" stand out with racism

The thing about the sequel series is that out of the main seven, the only ones I really liked were Percy, Annabeth, and Leo, the other four didn't really do much for me, especially Jason. And then the fourth book just started tossing a bunch of weird shit into the mix like having Percy fight the embodiment of Tartarus or the labyrinth coming back in the climax or something, and then the fifth one was just all over the fucking place and I don't mean because of the globe trotting Nico and co were doing with the Athena Parthenos.

Brandon Sanderson but he's an absolute s*** person. Homophobic and he lives right here in utah.

From what I've gleaned from online literary communities over the years is he isn't homophobic (though may have been at one point in his life?). A quick google returned this, but I don't know enough about the man or his works to know if he's being sincere.

I am a practicing and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As part of that, I support the leaders of the church, accept them as my spiritual advisors, and believe they are led by God.

That said, on the position of gay rights, I find my own beliefs more liberal than the general tenor of the church. Over the years, through interaction with wonderfully patient members of the LGBTQ+ community, I think Ive come a long way.

My current stance is one of unequivocable support for LGBTQ+ rights. I support gay marriage. I support trans rights, the rights of non-binary people, and I support the rights of trans people to affirm their own identity with love and support. I support anti-discrimination legislation, and have voted consistently along these lines for the last fifteen years. I am marking the posting of this FAQ item, at the encouragement of several of my LGBTQ+ fans, with a sizable donation to the Utah Pride Center and another to The OUT Foundation.

How do I reconcile this belief of mine with the teachings of the church? Well, I believe one of the purposes of our life on this planet is to grow, learn, mature, and understand. Even Christ learned measure by measure. I think the church itself has made great strides in the past years: it has come out against conversion therapy. It has begun allowing a trans persons preferred name to be noted on their records and used in church meetings. It has supported the Respect for Marriage Act in the United States.

...

I put LGBTQ+ people into my books, and will continue to do so. Not because I want to fulfill a quota, but because I genuinely believe that it is right for the charactersand is a good and important thing for me to be doing. God created LGBTQ+ people in this world; to ignore such an important aspect of His creation would be to deny, in some small way, Him.

Percy, Nico, Reyna, and Thalia could have been an amazing team. Add the intelligence and ingenuity of Annabeth and Leo and they'd be incredible. Three children of the Big Three and...Well, Reyna is Reyna. 7 demigods needed a highly advanced magical flying ship to cross a dangerous ocean; Reyna managed it on a flying horse.
