With this one basically being like a reset for the series it'll be interesting to see the sales. Not gonna lie i was starting to get burnt out a bit by the end of Reverie. The series had lost some of its magic. We've seen enough of Western Zemuria now and the battle system was just boring with how broken it was. Hopefully this arc can recapture some of the magic that lured me in with Cold Steel.

Honestly I haven't even bought Reverie yet, which is nuts to me because I was extremely invested still with CSIV. Maybe it's just the idea of it being a crossover fanservice thing making it feel....cheap? Unimportant?

Tentatively excited for this, though.

seems like Reverie is turning out to be a lot of people's favorite Trails game though. I've still only played the first two chapters of the Japanese version and haven't played it in English yet. Still working towards the platinum in Azure

Reverie is much better than CS3 and CS4 (and also sets up this game in some ways).

Reverie is one of the best in the series for sure

Yeah Reverie is fantastic, dunno about better than CS3 and CS4 but it's certainly on the same level.

C's route was fantastic in Reverie.

I believe you're thinking of Cold Steel IV

Kuro II is the one I've heard a lot of mixed things about but that's a ways off for official English release.

Oh yes hype. The teases for Kuro at the end of Reverie are some of the best written parts of the entire series imo so I'm really excited. The fact that those are vn-adjacent sections probably gives them a bit of an unfair advantage in that department but I'm still excited regardless.

I liked Reverie more than at least all the Cold Steel games, except maybe 3 which I'd probably put on the same level.

CS4 is in a weird place with the fandom I think.

The people who are consistently down on the Cold Steel sub-series as a whole will often say that it's the worst and most culpable of all the games, and then there are the people who consistently like the big climactic moments of the series who will say that it's the strongest game of all of them.

Also yes Kuro 2 I've heard got very mixed reception, but the nature of the complaints makes me think it won't bother me as much as others, at least.

I suppose I'll pick up Reverie then, especially if it does build towards Daybreak! I wanted to force myself to keep going with Zero first, but I'm certain if I hold myself to that I'll never play another Trails game again.

Ive been told that the official translation for Reverie made the game a lot better than what the fan translations could do with it.

If you're not feeling Zero then you may as well just look up story summaries on youtube. To be honest i wish i'd just done that for sky and crossbell as i was basically just rushing through them to catch up after i'd played CS2. There are that many games in the series now i wouldn't blame anyone for doing it.

Or just read the summaries the game itself gives you

That's your opinion mate. I got the impression UshiromiyaEva wasn't that into Zero which is why i said it. Plus there are some of us that felt Cold Steel was the best arc.

I'm gonna give it a chance because they're changing location and the battle system. I feel this is a pretty crucial game for the longevity of the Trails project as a whole.

Sales weren't great but Kuro seems to have been very well received from a word-of-mouth perspective, at least from those that have played it in the English-speaking community.

There's obviously some selection bias in that statement since the people that would have played it already are likely to be dedicated fans of the series.

the change to the battle system almost certainly turned away some fans who just want turn based only and not a hybrid

I'm a massive fan of turn based.The trouble is when you've got a series like this that just keeps adding more powerful mechanics over 10 games then you're gonna reach a point where it becomes a problem. Even the character crafts became a problem eventually. They just kept boosting them all every game until they had broken stats.
