That was on Cartoon Network IIRC all the time back in the day

One of the most iconic cartoons ever despite being "old"

My BIL is 14 and has no idea who any of the Looney Tunes characters are other than Bugs Bunny. Even then with Bugs, he just knows the what the character looks like.

I have mentioned a few times on this board in various topics how much I enjoy Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

I also think when you mention Scooby Doo in general people lump all of the different iterations kind of together. I'm talking about the actual Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! from 1969 and 1970. That was my favorite version.

Though I also enjoyed the The New Scooby-Doo Movies from 1972 and 1973 and also The Scooby-Doo Show from 1976 to 1978.

But those first two original seasons of the 1st iteration of the show was my favorite. Ironically as a kid born in 76 and growing up in the 80's I watched very little of the shows that were actually current at the time in the 80's though I did watch a little of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo the majority of my watching was of the stuff from 1969 through the 70's.

I'm not an absolute Scooby Doo fan boy but I do enjoy it and am very fond of those memories.

do millennials even know about shows like Detective Front Page and famous actors like Sophia Loren? You weren't expected to know about media from decades ago when you were a kid so stop shaming new generations for not knowing about your 90's media.

I can confirm as a millennial that I don't know either of these two.

Not even a newer (well ok newer to me lol) one like Grumpier Old Men where she is in her 60's? Side note the Grumpy Old Men movies are funny. For simple clean humor but I always enjoyed Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. And Ann-Margret was still quite good looking in her 50's.

Honestly, Scooby Doo, Where Are You? only got three seasons, so it doesn't seem unreasonable that somebody today may not know it.

this is good thing because the new generation will produce fresh content. we need to move on from the era of 90's kid indie game developers that want to make videogames about 90's nostalgia! Imagine a game like Life Is Strange, but games like Minecraft and Club Penguin are considered nostalgic.

I get this sense the James Gunn live action Scooby Doo movies were the "true" Scooby Doo whenever the Z generation talk about it. It's like they experience the Scooby Doo cartoons as an animated adaptation that just happened to precede it.

Millenials have the Zombie Island era and then the live action.

Technically Scooby Doo is media from older generations even for our generation.

That's one of my least fav things about the younger generation today. No appreciation for the classics. If it's more than 5 years old, they aren't interested. :p

the reason why you're familiar with hannahbara cartoons is because there wasn't high speed internet at the time. Kids can't watching TV much nowadays so they aren't going to know about King Of Queens or Sophia Loren. You consumed old media as a kid because it was all that was available. kids can't going to know about KND unless it gets recommended to them on youtube.

Scooby Doo gets a new show every few years so it's not like the characters are unknown to young audiences.

And I'm really not going to fault kids from not wanting to watch cartoons from 50+ years ago. The animation from that era of Hanna-Barbera generally sucked, anyway.

and old cartoons are way too sanitary or generally insensitive/offensive. imaging having grandkids and forcing them to watch through every classic anime from your time while having to consume anime during the demon slayer/spy x family era and whatever anime is popular in your grand kid's time.

Well we grew up watching stuff from the 60s-80s whether it be old cartoons on Cartoon Network, old sitcoms on TVLand, or old movies played over and over on cable stations. With the decline of tv and up swing of youtube with newer generations, they aren't as exposed to a wide range of things anymore. They can choose what to watch which allows them stay in a narrow lane of entertainment.
