I thought (the first syllable) was simply short for Japanese like Jew is short for Jewish, had no idea it was a slur until I innocently said it in 8th grade reading class referring to a character in a story and the teacher flipped out.

Power Rangers was American. When I found out parts of it were from Japan, I literally could not comprehend what that meant.

I also thought Terminator 2 was the only one when it came out because literally nobody talked about or showed the first one anymore. I thought that the name was because there were two of them.

For many years I thought the old lady vocals in Metallicas The Memory Remains was James Hetfield randomly taking his voice to a VERY weird place.

I assumed most famous rock bands other than the Beatles were American (Led Zeppelin, Def Leopard, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, etc)

Speaking of which, im probably not alone, but I thought Led Zeppelin was a person.

I used to be really lazy, so instead of taking my trash to the garbage can in the kitchen, I knocked out the screen in my bedroom window so I could toss stuff out.

then I went a bunch of years without a screen :/

I thought drinking and driving applied to any kind of drink. I once freaked out when my dad took a drink of Mtn Dew while driving because I thought the cops were going to pull him over for it.

I used to mix up famous people.

The most outrageous was mixing up Alfred Hitchcock with Adolf Hitler. I thought they were the same person until I was 12.

Actually, speaking of crimes, when I was really little I thought manslaughter meant you like violently ripped a human being apart.

I thought in Safeway, the "by the pound" variety caramels at the front was free for whatever reason and used to grab a few and eat them as we did our shopping

My parents were watching some documentary on people preparing for their terminally ill pets to be mummified, when I was 8 or so.

I thought they were just disappointing, and parents could mummify you if you were bad. My parents dissuaded that notion, fortunately.

I remember when I learned mummies couldn't actually move and chase people. I still feel this weird sense of disappointment, similar to finding out about Santa.

My great grandma was worried about me being on the computer all the time because she thought I would catch a computer virus.

As for me I thought the first season power rangers used Japanese footage but none of the other seasons did.

I had a friend who thought Monty Python was a single person.

My best friend did as well. He saw an interview with Eric Idle, and it said "Monty Python" under his name, and thought it meant he WAS Monty Python, and the rest of the group were co-stars. Like, he stood by this until his late 20s or so.

When I was in first or second grade a friend and I were going around being little shits.

We found something in the gutter he said was a computer piece he had seen before, we put it balanced on a neighbors door handle in the townhouses we lived at.

We came back like an hour later and there were two fire trucks, an ambulance, four cop cars and the fucking bomb squad.

The best part was the neighbor, a young woman, came over to use our phone to call her family about what was going on because we were nice friendly people.

Turns out we had found a detonator road crews etc use for setting off explosives.

They thought it was a threat and her place was rigged.

So my nine year old self breaks down crying after she gets done on the phone, and explain to her and the two cops (that just happen to be in my living room) that I was the one responsible for everything.

Fun times.

I thought Pokemon was pronounced "poke man" as in poking something

I thought good things happen to good people, bad things happen to bad people, and that the world was fair.

That if you worked hard and did everything they told you, good things would happen to you.

When I was a kid I used to think that toilets on airplanes just immediately jettisoned the waste when they were flushed lol

When my dad did fantasy football when i was like 6 I thought he actually controlled people's careers. And i would get upset when he said he would release players.

After watching old reruns of black and white tv when I was really little, I thought they hadnt invented color yet.

I wondered why old movies called Native Americans "engines."

I thought maybe there was a story behind it related to a locomotive engine -- since automobiles / automotive engines did not exist at the time being depicted. No. It was just a corruption of the term Indian which was, in and of itself, a total misnomer.

I thought money laundering was when you leave money in your pockets and wash your clothes.

I thought drinking and driving included non-alcoholic beverages. I once snatched a can of Coca-Cola out of my moms hand and told her not to drink and drive.

I thought the dark energy disks were real because I didn't understand the concept of "bleeding out."

I could tell when a gun was supposed to be present, though.

I thought that all you need for success was to work hard.

When I realised that wasnt the case, I became more successful.

Also, since I support civilian gun ownership (within reason) I thought I was conservative in general, meaning I embraced anti-abortion propaganda and misinformation ("just adopt it out," etc.) I also believed Afghanistan and Iraq were justified, partly thanks to my conservative father always justifying them.

I also used to buy that under capitalism "anyone had the capacity to become a millionaire if they worked hard."

Generally speaking I despise myself prior to age-25 or so.
More than I despise my current self, I mean.

When I was very young, I thought a pack of large fries from a fast food restaurant had longer french fries compared to a small pack, which had the smaller-sized fries.

i thought that outside of certain circumstances(like shredded or crushed to a paste) a person only dies if they give up on life. cuz in movies the characters will just like fall asleep after giving a speech and i thought they only died because they didnt have enough willpower to live.

i thought this way when i was around 5-6 years old minimum. not sure when i stopped thinking this tbh

I used to think that if I threw something as hard as I could, but grabbed on to it at the last second, I could grab into it and be carried by the force of my throw.
