I'm very casual about the competitive scene but Rodtang has been a super popular name I've noticed with Superlek up there too. They just had a super fight recently but unfortunately Superlek weighed in overweight (but fight still went on). ONE uploaded the fight for free.

https://youtu.be/xZtadif15WU?si=fwoaBwknW4SHyR_q

Bit of spoilers but for those that are queezy, Superlek does bleed pretty early.

Apparently Superlek was the favorite but Rodtang did great.

I also love how the arena shouts with each blow lol

One thing I really appreciate about Muay Thai compared to UFC is the incorporation of knees and elbows. I fucking love knees they look so brutal when they connect (legally)

This reminds me of Kenichi, where Akisame explains that elbow and knee strikes are forbidden in most martial arts because if you dont know what youre doing, its easy to kill your opponent.

Then Apachai explains that Muay Thai favors elbow and knee strikes because if you know what youre doing, its easy to kill your opponent.

Yes.

I used to like to spar a bit, and I had the chance to "train" (I was going to do my best) at a Kai Muay a bit outside Bangkok for a week. I selected the place because it was one of the few at the time that could train in English and I was told it was something of a "bootcamp" for people looking to "get serious" about Muay Thai.

As I was making arrangements over the phone, the guy asked if I was bringing my own bales of hay. I said "hay?". Calmly he said, "yeah, well some guys bring hay from their hometown and wrap their feet in it at night to keep the rats from licking the callouses."

I ordered a T-shirt instead.

Lol I love it

When ever I was asked about the shirt, I told that story. I have enough respect for the art not to try to steal any of its valour. I did tour the place because one of the stipulations to purchase and wear the shirt was that you had to have actually set foot on the premises to pick it up.

The barracks in Full Metal Jacket looked a bazillion times nicer than the dormitory and there was no A/C, fwiw.

Man that could have gone another round or two, I feel like the smaller guy could have pulled it out. The champ was gassed the whole last round.

That super dude seemed way bigger than the other dude and just manhandled him a couple times.

Still a good fight

*they both seemed tapped out at the end, the flyweight dude stumbled trying to walk straight going into the last 10 seconds

It's pretty cool to see how much Rodtang respected Superlek for this fight. Because usually he's doing shit like this lol

You never watched Jon Jones, Israel Adesanya nor Alex Poatan?

I mean, some of the best UFC fighters come from Muay Thai legues.

Knees and elbows are why I have to watch mma sparingly. Seeing someone take a knee to the face or get split open by an elbow is unnerving.

UFC has elbows and knees. Pride FC back in the day, though, banned elbows but allowed for knees to a downed opponent, while UFC doesn't allow knees if the opponent is down.

Speaking of which, look at these brutal knees from Kevin Randleman (RIP) in Pride:

I didn't mean to say UFC is absolutely devoid of elbow/knee strikers. But compared to how Muay Thai utilizes them, there is a vast difference.

Oh yeah I'm aware, especially the rules. But I guess more stand up elbows and knees. Like how Cowboy kept nullifying that Hernandez kid's forward pressure with knees during their fight.

Gotcha, and wasn't trying to be all "UM AKSHUALLY", just genuinely wanted to share cool information.

Haha I wish I did get into MMA earlier. I keep hearing about "PRIDE NEVER DIE". Absolute terrifying specimens like Randleman, Ubereem, TRTtor.

Prior to the early 20th century, the head was also a legal weapon in Muay Thai.
