I let my dog get a few licks in and then make her stop.

My aunt's dog licks everything but she specially goes for faces if you let her. She's learned to even do it after being blocked to the point where if you aren't constantly in defense mode when you pick her up she will sieze the moment and face lick you while wagging her tail in pride.

I very much dislike a dog licking me and have to wear pants cause some people have dogs that lick your knees.

Yeah I love animals, dogs in particular. I love playing with my friends dogs but the cleanliness is the main reason that's putting me off from getting a dog for myself.

I'm a bit of a germophobe. If the dog jumps on my bed, I will have to change all the sheets n everything. And if the dog jumps on the sofa, I would have to make sure I don't sit on it in my pyjamas.

I will have to wipe his feet everytime we come back from walks.

It'll just be way too much work for me.

The whole " dogs mouth is cleaner than a human mouth" is not true. They have just as many germs than we do. Though we each have some germs that the other does not.

I think its a display of affection. Dogs are licked by their mothers and they equate licking with petting.

Dog owners are weird, but owning a pet instead of befriending one as an adult must take a lot of coping.
I'm sure in a couple centuries it'll be quite frowned upon we bred animals purely out of our own pleasure instead of any necessity.

Eh, my mother's dog likes to jump intoq my lap and lick my neck. I usually let him get a few licks in and then pull him off.

Ok, so since you mentioned this, and my request to another user for a source on this in post 30 was not addressed yet, Ill post one of my own as to why the dogs mouths are cleaner than humans is kinda BS.

TL:DR - if youre not brushing your dogs teeth on a regular basis, they could have harmful bacteria and its probably not a good idea to have them licking around your mouth, nose, eyes, or any open wounds for sure. They even specifically mention saliva potentially being the method of transmission, which makes logical sense and I cant fathom how dog saliva is somehow magically less bacteria ridden than human saliva.

The article does also make pretty clear that you probably dont need to be super crazy and assume that dog licks are dangerous per se, but a bit of common sense (dont let pets or other humans lick open wounds) could go a long way.

It just blows my mind a bit and completely lacks common sense when I hear the dogs mouths are clean myth over and over. With my wife and her family being ones that are pretty vocal and consistent about it. -_-
