Went to IRL Kamurocho and it was good. The layout isnt that different from the games! Saw the red arch, saw the karaoke building on whatever IRL Nakamichi St. is called, saw that parking lot with the host posters plastered all over it, saw Theater Square, saw where Millennium Tower would've been (I think it's some hotel here), saw and ate at the sushi place on Showa St. Saw the love hotel section >_>

Now for the..... different. There's a lot of bums here >_> Theater Square is filled with nothing but bums and punks smoking. The square literally smells like piss and cigarettes lol. No SEGA clubs anywhere from what I could tell. There was a lot of random Nigerians on the eastern half that would accost me to come with them. Like 3 of them would descend on me at once every fucking block there. Apparently they lure dumb tourists to their bars, and either drug them or threaten them for money. Plus I noticed them giving signals to each other >_> New Serena building and back lot isn't there at all. There's random maids and cosplayers holding up signs with costs on them. I think they're asking for money to take a picture? It's kinda expensive like 1000yen at the smallest. And finally no random fights at all.

Not-Kamurocho was......interesting >_> Didn't go near Golden Gai area tho

Oh yeah. I feel completely safe in all the other parts of Tokyo I've been like Shibuya, Asakusa, and Akihabara. But Kabukicho set off all sorts of red flags when I went at night. Definitely the sketchiest part I've seen so far

Literally every pachinko parlor I've seen has EVA stuff on it right now. The 1st floor is all EVA machines in all of them too. I guess it's the hot new machine right now

Speaking of safety, I see little kids (like 5-8yos) walking home from school by themselves all the time in this city. I cant see that happening in an American city. It may be rare, but every once in a while there are Japanese serial killers. I still remember that guy who left a kid's head on a school gate. They shouldn't let 5 year olds walk home alone in any country on earth

Everyone is so nice, but I've also heard those stories about the subway attacks from cults and that serial killer that would put people's heads by their shoes >_>

I (think) I've been pretty good with my mannerisms and etiquette so far, like not getting in the way like I've literally seen every other random baka-gajin American do so far. Almost everyone I've had an interaction with has been nice and friendly and I've been making the most out of the Sume-masen hand chop, arigato-gozamesta, and my light bow >_>

There was this Taiyaki stand in Akiba that had great Taiyaki, I don't know if it's still there as it was in 2019, but it was delicious! Also, we went to a cheap but really good sushi place in Shibuya, where you order on a screen and your order arrives on a controlled conveyer belt. Also, in Harajuku, there's this amazing Gyoza place.

We had a 12 hour layover in Narita in February and we went to the sushi and gyoza places, took us 6 hours of transport and cost us around 100 bucks, but it was so worth it.

There really is a fuckton of different Japanese school outfits (at least for girls). I mustve seen like 10 different variations just walking around and using the train >_> The guys I've literally only seen 2 different ones lmao. They're still wearing their summer versions so maybe you'll be able to see different guy versions better when they have their jackets on

Was going to do Japan this year. I lagged way too much on plans, and decided to just do an East Coast trip to New York instead.

Might do Japan next year. I'm not going to France until Paris gets their bed bug thing under control.

Can't just do the gate. You have to also hit up the Donki, the Toho Theater, the square in front of it, whatever they replaced Club SEGA with, also that parking lot with all the pretty boy pictures.

Geez, everything has been interesting. The culture differences is my answer >_> Anime and media doesnt nearly convey all the little nuances in everything they do here. It's been a lot of fun trying to learn the etiquette!

As for something *tangible*, I guess seeing the infrastructure of everything like how stores can be like 14 floors high and have specialties on every floor (basically like Celedon City store in Pokemon Red lol. It's literally like that). Or how houses and roads and their trains are laid out differently compared to America. And the old temples and shrines and such was really cool to look at and see some of the history. I always liked seeing the differences in that stuff when I visit other countries

I heard if I wanna get blasted with Japanese history, I should go to Kyoto >_>

Yes. When I went to Japan, I visited mostly Nagoya but spent a weekend in Kyoto. Kyoto is a major tourist town even for Japanese people. It's got tons of historical stuff. And lots of temples and shrines. It reminded me of Philadelphia in that it's got a lot of historical significance to its countries past.
