So if IGN isn't gonna die anytime soon I don't see us dying yet either if we're basing the life of our websights solely based on active logged in users.

As I've said many times before, the boards absolutely ARE dying. For example, CE used to average more than 40 topic pages per day (at 50 topics per page) even within the last decade, and now it averages 25 or 26. That's a huge drop.

I don't think that's exclusive to this websight, though. All video game websights are dying.

the users and user number is much more an important part of gamefaqs than of ign. The latter is for news.

I only use GameFAQs for CE. I don't even remember how I started coming here but I used to be on several boards and then...I'm just here. Funnily enough, this is where I get my news.

IGN's message boards matter way less than their articles and their social media output.

But our guides and faqs matter more than our forums

That maybe true but I think those are also being impacted by wikis and video guides. Personally the only time I use guides on here is when I'm playing an old game.

Steam and achievement hunting guides are already superior as well. Both Steam and achievement hunting sites tend to put out spoiler-free, non-blabbering walkthroughs, with optional video content (thank fuck video guides died out quickly tbh).

Unlike GFAQS, which is quite bad for giving you their life story and every spoiler possible along the way.

Even reviews are a bit pointless on here now, as you'd get more eyes on it via Steam, or curators ~ though most people won't bother since the biggest curators collaborate with duplicate reviews and vidlinks to get a monopoly on review views.

The odd good guide on gamefaqs, isn't really enough tbh. They lost that way back in the first exodus, probably over a decade and a bit ago. The site hasn't kept up with modern times IMO.

That number is clearly much lower now that Vegy is gone

Still better than Gamespot. Their SW board used to be incredibly active but now there are topics that are a couple of days old on the front page.

I have no idea.

I really wanted to try migrating to reddit because of having more people to talk to, but came to learn that's not how the website works. It's literally like if you took the youtube comments section and gave that its own website.

On reddit you can't just go to a forum and make a discussion topic about anything, literally anything. Game you're playing, movie you're watching, show you're streaming, none of that.

Heck, even going to a sub dedicated to an activity like gaming, they have all these stupid rules so every time I try to make a discussion topic about literally any game it gets removed.

And you know what topics do exist? The ones with all those 10000+ thumbs up arrows? Literally just news topics and articles from websites I will never click on or go to in a million years. Hell there is more activity for a gossip article about an actor than there is for the actual "official discussion topic" of the movie they're in.

And even then, sometimes it's too big. I don't bother entering topics here that have over a hundred posts because I know its just drivel and never actually engaging discourse for a topic I like. So it makes me wonder why anyone on reddit enters a topic that has not 100, but literally 10000 posts in it. Like no way in hell you're gonna actually read or have anyone read your 1 post in that sea.

So yeah, I honestly don't know how it works. I come here because I literally have no friends to talk to about my hobbies or interests, and even then some of the more niche stuff I understand simply will never get any posts either from the meager 50 people on here.

I think missing board only users is fine. I'm sure it's relatively similar.

It used to be whenever I would google a question it would also bring me to a gamefaqs topic where someone asked a similar one. Now it's to a reddit topic unless it's an old game.

There are some social boards I used to frequent that now don't have a post for days.
