To be fair, there wasn't exactly a bunch of volunteering here. Kirk was basically volun-told what to do, LMAO

What's the one Star Trek series y'all would recommend to someone who's only ever watched the Abrams trilogy? Almost fell asleep during the third one of those, so clearly I'm not a fan of constant action setpieces. Also not a fan of how sterile newer treks in general look. Based on the clips I've seen I'd probably prefer older treks because the sets look more lived in to me, if that makes sense. Would prefer something with a greater emphasis on social issues and day in the life type of scenes more than action scenes. I'm guessing TNG would he a safe bet just because Patrick Stewart is fucking based.

Lower Decks is good, I agree. Most people seem to agree that SNW is a fantastic show (and the crossover episode was great). Perhaps the problem is that you decided to make the 17th episode of the series your first episode to watch and don't know why any of the characters act like they do.

TNG is a good place to start. It's one of the best Trek shows (the best depending on who you ask) and is pretty easy to get into if you're new to the franchise.

I'll caution you that the first couple of seasons are pretty rough. Not that there aren't good episodes in those first two but it's really in season 3 where it starts to become a great show. It was a show that was made to be episodic so if you want to dip your toe in the water you should be fine picking out a few episodes from those middle seasons and then doing a full watchthrough only if it clicks with you.

No one ever wants to talk about this, but there are parts of Undiscovered Countrys plot that are pretty silly. Spock just sticking a very visible homing device on Kirks shoulder so he can be traced later is hilarious-to name one of the many contrivances that move the plot along. Glad Kirk didnt change his jacket before the trial!

But: ST: UC just feels right, you know? The music and visuals are great, the characters we love are all in fine form, the goodbye is poignant, and General Chang is just a wonderful scene chewing villain. I love the movie, even though parts of it make me roll my eyes a bit.

But the best line delivery belongs to Sulu: FLY HER APART THEN!!!!!!

Lower Decks is... fine. It's a fun show, but I'd still rank all the live action series, besides maybe Discovery, over it. Strange New Worlds is quite solid, though.

Picard Season 3 is probably the best season in all of Star Trek. I encourage anyone who dropped off after the first two seasons to watch it.

So glad someone else remember this line fondly! I'll randomly hear it in my head emphasizing "this is worth the sacrifice" moments.

The whole ending sequence hit so many high notes (despite them somehow having the whole bridge crew beam down) though I do wonder how much harder it is to appreciate if you didn't grow up during the cold war ending.

I get why you guys might not think so, and it did have a lot of flaws. Some of the fan service went a bit far, The Borg weren't really well done, and sometimes they seemed openly disrespectful to the earlier seasons.

But man, they just hit it out of the park with episode after episode. I get that a season is more than just the quality of episodes, but I would say at least half of them were a 9 or a 10. That doesn't happen much.

They mention coffee a lot in TOS. Like more than you'd think a lot. And I drink a fair share of coffee.

But, I did get a chuckle out of what those damn Tribbles did to Kirk's sandwich and coffee!!

Of course the invading Tribble in the coffee mug had to be brown lmao.
