For those unaware: Pokemon Crystal Legacy is a rom hack of Crystal made by SmithPlaysPokemon that was released last week. Definitely check it out if you get the chance, because it's the best version of gen 2 Pokemon that I've ever played and fixes basically every flaw of the gen 2 games.

Anyways, here's the team I used to beat the Elite Four and Champion. Things that are changed from base Crystal are noted in italics.

Golem (trade evolutions now have an alternate method to evolve them that doesn't involve trading)
* Earthquake
* Rock Slide (had its base power raised to 80, plus Golem now learns this move by level-up and not only as an egg move)
* Rock Smash (had its base power raised to 60)
* Mud Slap

Scizor (Metal Coat is now obtainable earlier and can be used to evolve Scizor without needing to trade)
* Cut (is now a Bug-type move, had its base power raised to 65, had its accuracy improved, and has an improved crit chance)
* Metal Claw (had its base power raised to 70 and its accuracy improved)
* Wing Attack
* False Swipe

Ampharos (normally not obtainable in Crystal, only in G/S)
* Thunderbolt (Ampharos now learns this by level-up and not only from the move tutor)
* Fire Punch
* Dynamicpunch
* Thunder Wave

Misdreavus (got minor stat buffs to SpAtk, SpDef, and Speed, plus is found in Burned Tower instead of right at the end of the game in Mt. Silver)
* Shadow Ball (Ghost-type moves are now all special moves, swapped with Dark-type moves which are now all physical moves)
* Confuse Ray
* Pain Split
* Perish Song

Flareon (had its base Attack and SpAtk switched, plus evolution stones are now buyable in Cianwood)
* Flamethrower
* Shadow Ball
* Swagger
* Charm

Suicune
* Surf
* Ice Beam (Suicune now learns this by level-up, not only from the move tutor)
* Rest
* Sleep Talk

I also used Totodile/Croconaw and Teddiursa/Ursaring earlier in the playthrough (both took advantage of Dark moves being physical now, especially Teddiursa who swept Morty's gym with Faint Attack) plus I use the Red Gyarados as my HM mule for Strength, Whirlpool, Waterfall, and Fly. Yes, Gyarados can learn Fly in this game. I was actually temped to make the Red Gyarados a permanent member of my team until I realized I needed something that could use Ice moves for Lance and decided to catch Suicune for that.

Gonna head to Kanto next. The Kanto gym leaders got a huge boost in difficulty and are really tough like a proper postgame should be.

I'm playing this hack.

Unfortunately while he tried buffing the Chikorita line, it still suffers from the fact that Grass STAB just is really bad in GSC. Too many bug, grass, poison and flying types. I ended up boxing it before the third gym.

Updates:
* Golem learned Explosion (got rid of Rock Smash) and Scizor learned Swords Dance (got rid of Wing Attack) so their movesets are complete.
* I beat Surge, Erika, Misty, and Janine in that order to get my first 4 Kanto gym badges. Misty actually beat me a couple of times, which is when...
* I caught Zapdos (the Kanto birds are catchable in this rom hack but weren't in base Crystal) and replaced Ampharos on my team with it. Ampharos wasn't getting the job done for Misty, and I didn't feel like grinding yet. Plus, Zapdos will let me use Fly without needing to go to the PC and withdraw my Red Gyarados HM mule, so I also moved Rock Smash over to Gyarados to replace it since I took it off of Golem earlier.

I'm really enjoying this rom hack so far. Smith wasn't kidding about Kanto being a lot tougher now. I like the challenge.

Yeah, it's rough for a Grass-type in Johto. Even the buffs to Grass-type moves and their availability (especially Giga Drain) and Chikorita's wider support movepool aren't enough to make it a decent type when it's bad against 3/4's of the gyms in the region.
