Figuring out that you could kill any non-boss in SH2 with your eyes closed by turning off your flashlight and radio was the real mistake.

Oh that's it? I've got two eyes, I'll be fine.

Found a shotgun in an empty subway car. Surely something this nice is guarded, or triggers some sort of trap. ...No? I can just have this? Oh...ok. Thanks, spooky game.

>show a cutscene of an approaching train when you trigger an instant-death trap
>put the last remaining door that might go anywhere on the train tracks that trigger the trap
>show a cutscene of an approaching train when you trigger the mandatory stage transition

trololololol

Found a morning star. Heather's a cleric now.

Fuck this underpass. It's not hard, I'm just tired of the "dark tunnel" aesthetic from the subway and want to move on to the next part of the story. >_>

So...I haven't even been in Silent Hill this whole time?

Game is loads of fun. I have no idea what I'm doing but neither does Heather so I guess it works out.

Voice acting is great. Heather actually sounds quite decent while everybody else sounds the "fun" kind of bad you'd see in an MST3K episode.

Felt genuine relief when I *finally* got home to my apartment and could use that key I've had since the beginning of the game, only for...*that* to happen.

Then that white haired bitch made me fight some anus-faced jackass on a roof and I realized that there is a reason horror games incentivize you to avoid combat. Spent like ten minutes chasing eachother in a circle trying to hit, but they eventually fell to my katana.

Now the PI from the beginning of the game is driving me to Silent Hill and I'm getting a story dump that sounds like something out of a Final Fantasy game.

All of this and the thing that sticks out most in my mind is...Heather references "the worst hangover of your life" but...uh...she looks a bit young to know what a hangover is like >____>

Only 1 and 3 are directly connected with 3 being a direct sequel to 1. The others just have references or in the case of 4 the main character from 2s dad is in it.

When the game first released, no one knew that 3 was a sequel to 1 until the apartment scene. It was really much more tragic.

I remember people on this site wondering why a teenage girl was the protagonist when it made very little sense without context.

Got a little busy, got some more time to play on my way to work.

Can't see shit. X_X

Went over to the hospital and managed to explore the first floor. Wasn't prepared for the difficulty spike. Sexy nurses with pipes are faster and hit harder than anything else so far, and I stumbled into a room with 3 of the fuckers that started right on top of me.

...I'm out of shotgun shells. Fuck.

Heather also has a weirdo stalker. Fucking Stanley. Who is even named "Stanley" in the 21st century?

His little handmade dolls feel like they'll be important later, but Heather refuses to let me metagame and just won't pick them up. I swear if I have to backtrack for these...

Not sure if he's a ghost or just really sneaky. Guess I'll find out. Had to stop in an elevator. Will play more later

Homecoming is fine though it has a backwards difficulty curve.
Origins is good but pointless as a prequel.
Shattered Memories is an interesting reimagining of 1.

This otherworld hospital is creeping me out in a way the rest of the game hadn't managed, idk why. Picked up a key from the crematorium. Idk what it's for yet, but on one of the higher floors I read a note that makes me want to go back down and check on corpse number 7. >_>

why? SH4 and Origins are great and Downpour was good

The Room was one of the worst survival horror games I played for multiple reasons, but the biggest one to me was the abandonment of the two things that made SH SH: the crazy cult, and the fact that Silent Hill was a place trial/redemption by fire. Oh, and that it didn't actually take place in the town it was named after. The Room was just one crazy dude with mommy issues fucking people's lives up. And ghosts for some reason. The quality of the SH series started to go downhill at that point as Konami realized that they had a hot new IP on their hands and were milking it for all it was worth. The original SH team, who had created SH out of their outright hatred for the execs at Konami, literally became victims of their own success and...well, kind of let it go. There was a reason that subsequent games after awhile were handled by an American studio.

Origins was meh.

Downpour I admit to never playing, but I have heard nothing but bad things about the game from people who's opinions on the series I trust. After watching a LP, I had to agree: it was trash.

That's what they did for SH2 though and lots of people loved it. Also while I wouldn't say it's as direct of a sequel as SH3 to 1 is, there's a lot of references to SH2 in The Room.

No...SH2 was the SH team going into the trial/redemption by fire motif that I was speaking of previously. James' entire story is all about asking the player one question: does he deserve forgiveness for what he did?

No. No, he does not, the selfish, murdering bastard.

It was The Room that things went really bad. References to SH2 aside, I found nothing remotely redeeming about the game.

Personally I prefer the 1/3 interpretations where silent Hill is a cursed place that is just awful shit for anyone inside of it and not just for people with overwhelming guilt.

The Room isn't about guilt per se but it's still trial/redemption by fire. Just this time it's about the main character's personal trauma.
