Only a few more days.

The referendum is about altering the constitution to recognise the First Peoples, and to form an advisory body that represents them in parliament.

Any other Australians on CE wanna share their thoughts?

Its made me realise how many Australians are at best ignorant, at worst downright racists.

The sheer amount of repugnant, outright bigoted views and mendacious nonsense circulating in favour of the no vote is ridiculous.

Bump.

https://shorturl.at/hkpBH

That's an annotated transcript of the No pamphlet, and you can see the misinformation campaign on full display. Right there at the fucking start, "this would cover all areas of executive government, meaning no issue is beyond its reach."

Aside from being an outright lie, the way they phrase this shit to stir up fear among the ignorant is gross.

"We dont know how it will work, we dont know who will be on it, but we do know it will permanently divide us as Australians."

The classic "we don't know what will happen, but not all of us are gonna like it!" nothing statements that get people worried and tempted to vote no to avoid the situation entirely. Seriously, does that sentence say anything of tangible value? Sure as fuck can't see it if so.

How many times has 'You're the Voice' by John Farnham been used for this referendum?

And I'm hearing the result is likely to be no. Is this true?

I don't really check polls and such ahead of time, so I don't know if they'd be any more or less accurate than polls predicting the primaries would be in the US.

It wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't pass, though. But I guess in a few days we'll find out.

For what it's worth, I plan on voting Yes.

At any rate, nice to know that Republicans don't have the monopoly on blatant lying and misinformation. We have that issue here too.

Paraphrased from a discussion I'm having with a (much better educated) friend of mine.

CLAIM: "Decisions in relation to the economy, national security, infrastructure, health, education and more, would all be within its scope."

REALITY: There is no obligation upon parliament or the executive government to respond to the representations [from the voice] or give effect to them.

CLAIM:" If the Voice is not satisfied with the way it has been consulted, or a decision that is made, it could appeal to the courts. How long would this take?"

REALITY: no obligation for parliament or government to respond to the voices representations, to engage in prior consultation, or to wait for representations from the voice before making decisions.

It's an advisory body that can be 100,000% FUCKING IGNORED and implying anything else is straight up lying.

Does that remind anyone else of how Republicans just blatantly lie? And how the media never seems to call them out on it despite fact-checking being a simple Google search away?

Its Ronald Reagan's fault for inviting him to the US. I think Reagan gave him citizenship so he could set up shop here
