This thread once again shows how dangerous social media is and how it can be used to affect people prone to believing either fake news or at least incomplete news. This conflict is definitely complex. There's no excuse for the abhorrent events that took place last weekend. On the other hand, it should not be forgotten that palestine civilians should be protected under the same international laws as well. What I try to say is, that there simply is no "good side" and "bad side". It is a conflict of which I really don't know how anyone can solve it in a way both sides can agree with. Naturally, those abhorrent things Hamas did needs to be investigated, condemned and punished. But Hamas =/= palestine civilisation. So if Israel were to attack palestine civilians as a reaction of what happened, they wouldn't be any better than what Hamas did to their citizens. But yeah... it's really difficult. Yes but as long as Gaza is an open air prison literally nothing is going to be accomplished. Step one has got to be Israel taking their boot off the neck of Palestinians. I literally see absolutely no way forward without that being the first step. But as far as I can tell, there's simply no black/white side. Several events in the past have led to the situation we have today and as long as they don't find a common ground and start negotiating, nothing will change. It is definitely a different situation than Russias invasion of Ukraine, since Ukraine is an independent country and acknowledged by all countries around the globe. There's a clear aggressor (Russia) and a clear victim (Ukraine). That's what makes it so difficult for foreigners like us to grasp what's going on in Gaza. The Hamas attack was utterly barbaric, no excuses. But on the same time, if Israel responds in a similar way, by attacking random palestinians, the spiral of hate and bloodshed continues and nothing changes.
