Worst crime I could see myself doing is definitely ending someone for doing something harmful to me or my family. Were I to willingly throw away my freedom at that moment, I would have to deal with the consequences and just plead guilty.

Likely a bit of genetic predisposition, along with a combination of various social and psychological factors throughout life that have made me feel that humanity, while having some great accomplishment from extremely gifted people, is overrun with dumb and barbaric people to the point that I vehemently do not wish to compound the problem by adding more such people to the planet, while still recognizing that there are other creatures in nature that are much more deserving of running the planet but cannot due to their physical limitations, that I would like to protect and see thrive in spite of the fact that I cannot directly add to their population on my own.

Also I dont know about the US, but in Australia pleading guilty avoids a trial altogether (except possibly murder; not sure).

Also a guilty plea entitles you to the potential 25% discount on your sentence here (plus whatever the judge may think is fitting, hence why human judges must never be replaced by AI). I dont think plea bargains are a thing here as such.

In the US, the death penalty only exists in maybe half the states and a few federal crimes, and pleading guilty almost always evades it entirely.

Was the US sending troops as early as 1955? My rudimentary understanding was it didnt really get involved until 1965.

But maybe thats why no ones ever offered me a job teaching 20th century geopolitical history of Southeast Asia.
