we can't go to Jupiter, we can go to some moons of Jupiter but no Jupiter itself since there's nothing to land on there, as far as planets go in our solar system Mars is pretty much the only one that we can go to

Yes. Like somehow revitalize the sun. Or build a new sun. Or physically move earth to another star. I think about insane sci fi ideas like that sometimes and wonder if it will someday be possible

it's probably not so hard to do considering that there people living on the international space station for like months, the major problem is probably getting enough money to build things on the moon and convince some countries that they aren't building some nuclear bomb launching site on the moon or some spying system or something

It's kind of sad that humans think they're so important that we need to survive earth's destruction by the sun. No one really knows how much longer that will be, but it could be another billion years before the planet's too hot to sustain life. By then Mars will be in the habitable zone.

So yeah, let's focus on 1 billion years from now instead of trying to keep the planet alive before we evolve into squid people.

It's pretty much science fiction. I believe we're reaching a plateau with technology. Look at how much space travel has advanced since the first space shuttle. Not much at all in 40+ years. We're still using rockets.

The laws of physics will keep us right here on earth. There will be no magic wormholes taking us to fun planets that will be able to sustain human life. We need to accept it and put all those wasted resources into sustaining the only planet we'll ever call home.

Wormholes are like bigfoot. I guess they don't break laws, but there's no proof that they exist or could ever be created. With current technology it would take over 6000 years to reach the closest planet we think may be in the habitable zone. If we somehow find a way to travel at light speed, which I believe is impossible for anything with mass, over 4 years.

Science fiction.

there are other ways to break light speed like space bending
https://www.wondriumdaily.com/new-theory-suggests-bending-spacetime-to-travel-faster-than-light/

and most things we have now were considered impossible like 100 years ago, technology is always advancing, what might be impossible now might be everyday life for people just 100 years from now like airplanes and heart transplants were impossible like a century ago
heck what vidoegames can do now would be an impossible dream for gamers like 30 years ago

I can't see anyone in power actually having the necessary vision to gamble on investing a colossal amount of resources in a project that won't win them political rewards in their own lifetime. Their horizons are limited to four or five years from now.

And if people aren't prepared to make minor adjustments to their own lifestyle to try to help slow down climate change even though we're starting to feel its effects, don't expect them to give a thumbs up to their tax dollars being spent on some distant goal that won't directly benefit their own lives or their lives of their children.

I firmly believe that based on the behavior exhibited during the colonial age that any sort of planet we find, and anything unfortunate enough to live there will be mercilessly exploited until things are as bad there as they are here.

That's not to say it's impossible for us to grow, to become better, and if we do then maybe we can begin spreading out and colonizing. Until then? We need to stay the fuck here.

The thoughts can blow your damn mind. I've often found myself googling random statistics and having my mind absolutely blown.

The Sun is 110 times the size of the earth. To think we COULD one day do something like that seems super out there.

At the exact same time the nearest solar system other than ours is 11 light years away. To travel at that speed is ridiculous let alone needing to surpass that somehow countless times over to make traveling ANYWHERE Plausible whatsoever. We need to BLAZE past something that travels 186,000 miles in a single second. LOL

One of 2 things is certain. Humans will die in this solar system. Or we will one day have technology that makes the best of today an absolute joke. We would have a tough time explaining what we use today to someone alive in 1910. So perhaps there is hope?

NGL the Transfomers movie always stood out to me LOL. So wild how MUCH techn advanced in just the last 100 years when modern humans have been around so long.

That remains to be seen. If we manage to make civilization sustainable, then that's an enormous success, not a fuckup.

And if civilization doesn't end up working out, it's probably best if we take the rest of the earth down with us.

And even if it wasnt We just arent committed enough towards the cause overall, and arent willing to spend the wealth and resources we have now while theyre still abundant in order to do so.

And frankly we wont until its already to late.

i'm sure no one imagined we'd be able to travel across our own planet in less than a full day. i'm sure no one imagined we'd be in boxes of metal with wheels daily to move from one place to another. no one imagined a board with wheels or a seat with wheels would be an acceptable method of transportation.

it's just about transportation and efficiency and speed. if we can travel to/from planets faster, it'll make it all worthwhile. but to think it'll never or can't happen is just ludicrous. we'll figure out ways, it just depends on how long it'll take us, especially if we don't stop investing all of our tech on useless shit like phones.
