Like we're they actually even considered particular talents at their respective instruments

Doubt they could keep up with math rock or even prog today

I'm no huge Beatles fan, but yeah, at the bare minimum, George Harrison was an incredible musician. Lennon and McCartney less so, but they were definitely great song writers.

George was the most talented at his instrument. But theyre legendary for their songwriting, not their virtuoso instrumentation.

I think good music should be about expression and evoking emotion, not a talent show.

The Beatles advanced the album and studio music to levels nobody dreamed of.

That said, they stopped touring in 64 so they arent the best band ever.

i can agree that none of them seemed super technically proficient or anything, but they didn't need to be. i mean math rock, prog, etc are niche for a reason. the average listener just doesn't want to hear that.

Now individual members of the Beatles is another question. As a group, they were very good at music.

They were incredible for performing their instruments at the time. As time went on, people experimented with new sounds/techniques and technologies that greatly expanded the genre. Keep in mind their relatively tame music was considered hard rock for that era.

yes there were select musicians around that era who were tiers above at talent, but to have all the talent they did, plus writing ability and cool factor was simply just not there at the time. They got big for a lot of reasons
