It truly seems like the only path forward is some kind of deal with Democrats. Democrats actually have a ton of leverage since they only need to turn five votes if they agree on collective action.

I don't see a way GOP gets anyone elected speaker. They fought historically long for McCarthy, and that's been wholly eclipsed in this vote for the newest. This is just the McCarthy vote but worse.

Don't get me wrong, I love the in fighting, and Republicans hating each other only creates smiles for me, but knowing my taxes pay for them to play bullshit all day angers me.

It's hopefully going to be Jeffries but it'll take an act of God for even a handful to vote him.

Emmer right have been able to get some more establishment Dems to vote for him. Which would have hurt him even more. If that's how he won his career would be over.

The republicans have doomed themselves. It was a slow doom they could have reversed even a few years ago but they started to believe their own lies and are now at the point of no return. If I was a republican representative in a purple district I would be worried right now. All of them are in huge danger the longer this lasts.

Slight correction, very few of them actually believe the election was stolen; they pretend to believe it because it's politically expedient to do so.

Everyone on the "freedom caucus" believes Trump won. I doubt anyone whose had their seat for over a decade, including Jin Jordan, believes that lie though. Jordan likely just saw Trump as his path to more power.

This is a cautionary tale for any party with a narrow majority, but the dems never acted this way.

Even if the GOP had 240, it's possible that people will just shift and group up to carve out power.

We're watching the GOP die in some respects.

Yeah one of the main complaints Trumpers have right now is how there should be no more "Uniparty" speakers, and getting bipartisan votes would be seen as definitive proof of what they hate.
