The source of MAGA Worlds grievances against Emmer are manifold: Emmer voted to certify Joe Bidens 2020 election. As the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2022, he reportedly implored Republican candidates in the midterms to distance themselves from Trump. And hes been telling GOP donors that he wont support Trumps 2024 presidential primary campaign. You cant have the majority leader of the Republican Party being very anti-Trump and against his agenda, one source close to Trump tells TIME. Thats just not going to work. Theres no trust there.

I honestly don't know enough about Emmer to say if he's a reasonable guy or not. But I wonder if they are of the belief that "if you can't bridge gaps in your own party, how can you bridge gaps across the aisle." But again, I'm not versed enough in this to really speak intelligent about it.

Probably not, but it remains to be seen. Jeffries has said he's willing to work with certain Republicans, speaking positively of McHenry for example. But Emmer is weird to place though; while he's not an election denier and doesn't think Trump would be a good nominee, he's still very much a partisan Republican who's tried to help sweep Trump's crimes under the rug for the sake of the party.

How Dems respond to his campaign probably depends on if they think this is the most reasonable guy the GOP can come up with and if the part he's played in the GOP's propaganda can be overlooked based on that.

the maga leader in the house is gym jordan but he will say he is endorsing someone while privately telling his allies to not vote for someone other than him. it's what he did with scalise and likely what he will do with all of them.

gaetz is almost universally reviled and only really allied with the most extreme lunatics like boebert/jordan/greene/gosar. that wing has way less numbers than other gop factions but have gotten there way recently by bullying other republicans. luckily the normally spineless house gop finally grew a spine for this one thing at least for now

That's kind of immaterial as Scalise dropped out before any Floor Vote was cast and that really seemed to have been because Jordan bullied his way through. Which in turn garnered a lot of disgust with some "moderates". It doesn't seem as though Emmer is that kind of bully.

scalise only dropped out because jordans allies refused to vote for him while jordan 'endorsed' him. emmer is highly respected by more of the gop than jordan or scalise but the freedom caucus types won't support him as they won't support anyone but jordan or an equally extreme member

honestly emmer would be better than any of the other options so far. he would be the most like a compromise candidate and would be much more palatable for democrats since he would fund ukraine and keep the government running but i just don't see the lunatics voting for him. maybe if they cut a deal with democrats, but that seems extremely unlikely at this point

The problem is that too many Republicans are basically rogue actors at this point and don't care what more influential members are telling them to do. A sizable portion of them are basically playing the role Manchin does in the Democratic party.

jordan didn't endorse scalise in good faith, he 'endorsed' him in public while privately rallying the extremists against him and for himself. now the same caucus is surprised pikachu face that they are getting treated the same way they treated everyone else.
