Arti's giving some s*** takes, but I feel like you could also present better arguments for Undertale's case.

Though I feel I should also get some of the bad out of the way first. While it has a strong start and ending, the middle has a lot of annoying segments that get brought down on repeat playthroughs (looking at you, Alphys/Hotland in general).
I don't even think they're necessarily shit takes. I don't care if someone enjoys things, good for them, but when I hear bullet hell, I think things like gradius, life force, Touhou games to day the least. So you get something that's"meh" for most of the fights in the game and it barely passes as a RPG in that sense. The gameplay is not the strong part of the game.

And those are the parts I remember the most. The middle.

Like I said, I think the characters and the music are the best parts, but everything else is kinda mediocre. And even then, I'm not huge on most of the characters.

The op is exactly why people even have an adverse reaction to the game at moments because instead of having proper discourse, it's over hyping the game while ignoring the lacking or even grating aspects of it.

I even started by saying it's just mediocre.

Well you shouldn't, they're yours XD

The OP was asking people why they never played it.. It wasn't hyping or ignoring anything

Other than pointing out it got critical acclaim I guess. Which it did.

I have at no point presented an argument for why Undertale is a great game.

All I did was (when directly asked to) explained why I thought some incredibly strange opinions were strange. IE:

"The Genocide route is the same thing as picking closed fist moral choice options in Jade Empire."
"IT would be better if it removed equipment."

Those are very very very very very strange things to say.

I have at at every point stated that there's nothing really I can add to an opinion on whether the game was good or not. The topic isn't even about whether the game is good or not.

Just more curiousity about why gamers on a gaming site haven't played a short/cheap game that most people who touch it tend to widely belove.

Would be like asking people why they've never eaten pizza.

And someone comes in and says "Eating Pizza is the same thing as surfing while you're on fire."

And i'm like "What a strange thing to say." I'm not defending or attacking pizza beyond that.

It's not. It's comparing the two. The same way that ace attorney and Danganronpa get compared despite being so very mechanically different.

You didn't "compare the 2" you said they were the same thing and that games do what Undertale did all the time.

And the "genocide" vs "pacifist" thing can basically be summed up as "good" or "evil" routes that you see so very often in video games.
KOTOR, KOTOR2, Alpha Protocol, Fable 1-3, Jade Empire, Dragon Age all of them (they don't specifically monitor them, but the game keeps track of them for you). That's like... 10 right there. All pre 2015. Like seriously, this wasn't breaking any new grounds. Like... Every Bioware game made it a thing, and that's before you even count games like Wasteland or Fallout or anything that tries to resemble DND.

When I directly asked for an example that actually did the same thing Undertale did, you went sheepishly quiet. Just like you went sheepishly quiet when asked for examples of art inconsistency or when yourself accidentally defended the equipment system while arguing for its removal.

The fact you're backtracking now (although a good thing) just proves how strange and silly a statement it was.

It's just a cornucopia of very odd takes.

They do the same things. Yes.

Dude, this is super delusional. It's more that I'm not hanging around all day because I do things besides spam refresh to see if someone responded.

played it, loved it.

i think probably the most under-appreciated aspect of undertale is that it doesn't overstay its welcome. instead of trying to hit some arbitrary hour count it just tries to make the few hours it demands count.

Well they factually don't at all aside from a vague "They all involve making mean moral choices"

In which case every game is the same thing as Pacman since they all involve inputs.

I mean you literally asked me to respond to you and then have been responding in length all day. Each time just avoiding elaborating on the very very very strange takes you have.

The "I don't have time for this" rings about as hollow as someone saying the Genocide Route of Undertale and Selling Fenris to a slaver in Dragon Age 2 is the same thing cuz they're both "mean"

Oh wait.

That's the most gross interpretation of an argument that I've ever heard in my life. If you're going to make that argument, no game is the same unless it is literally the same game.

And I did, and your response is to this nonsense. And all you're doing is yammering on because I didn't say "greatest game ever" and had reasons for thinking it was a middle of the pack game. And apparently that's enough to anger you or some shit.

Like WTF are you even talking about at this point?

This is ... Actually pretty pointless. You aren't waiting for anything, I gave you an answer. You didn't like it. I'm moving on. There's literally nothing to discuss with someone being this thick.

I dont like preachy games that punish me for killing things, as a rule. The difference between Undertale and games like Dishonored as both do that is that Undertale doesnt really have anything appealing to me to offset that.

Not only does Undertale not punish you for killing things, it actively rewards you with extra health.

The best part about this one specifically is that it misrepresents what both genocide and closed fist are trying to convey.

Man, I am so glad I played Undertale in the 1st week simply b/c it looked like a cool indie RPG.

If I waited a month, I wouldve been so turned off by the fucked up fanbase and missed out on a decent game >_>
