Not unless we fix the gerrymandering. They will always be the 30% of the country that has 50% of the votes because the way our system boosts the voice low-population areas.

once 1-vote actually equals 1-person, the gop flatlines. Theyll never have a majority again.

They should be, however, they are constantly trying to game the system to desperately hold on to power with mixed success.

It as long as winner take all in presidential elections, gerrymandering, the House seats are capped at 435, they control the judicial branch, and the Senate exists.

that

the only reason they still have any power is because they gamed the system. It is obvious at this point hardly anyone who isn't them still likes them. And that's only going to become more and more true as younger and younger people are able to vote.

Outside of the ultimate system game (read: Project 2025 taking off), the only way they could be a legitimate competitor is like if we somehow had another party switch or they otherwise actually bothered trying to appeal to the left, younger voters, non-Christians etc. And I'll put better odds on putting houses on Mars than Republicans ever doing that (as we know every time this idea is brought up within the party, it is immediately shot down).

that said I would agree they have lost at least a little power in spite of the system game. as mentioned they can't get people to vote for them, which has been a big issue in almost every election since HW Bush.

Their ultimate goal for this administration is obstruction, so in that sense they're at the height of their power.

I'd like to believe that they are. The GOP have been losing popularity with the masses as they've grown ever more extreme, but they've been able to maintain a death grip on power through both legal and illegal means regardless.

I fucked up and voted the wrong option

between blatant gerrymandering for house districts and for state positions and the way the senate and electoral college give them disproportionate power, no they're not going anywhere for the foreseeable future

Their popularity is usually steadily dropping, often plummeting, and rarely makes any recovery. But their power is gradually increasing, and their control growing by the day. It's very unfortunate.

The fact that they've successfully ground the government to a halt shows, despite no longer being the historically united front they previously were. that they are just as powerful if not more so then they've always been.

Gerrymandering seems to be getting a lot of attention. Wisconsin finally seems poised to fix ours. Republicans are scared they want to impeach Protasiewicz.

My conspiracy take is that the Democrats are secretly colluding with the Republicans to make sure neither party gets completely phased out.

How else can you explain the Democrats dropping the ball every time they are on the verge of assuming dominance over the Republicans.

Yes, by dropping the ball and making the Republicans appear to be the more reasonable party of the two.

Only if you don't pay attention to what republicans are doing. There is a reason insane projects like 2025 are being pitched to republicans and not democrats. Because no democrat would destroy America and turn it into a Christian theocracy.
