He used that expertise and experience to get himself out of a bad situation and change his life. Its fat fetched and fantastical sure but its justified in the narrative and theres a beautiful dramatic irony to the arc (reactor). Spider-Man needs to swing so come up with a way he invented it. He's a CEO, a mechanical engineer, a scientist, an inventor, an AI programmer and whatever else the plot needs him to be. On top of being a superhero. It's not like there's a depiction of him hiring best and brightest who does most of this stuff for him. He is given all of the credit. At most he invented the AI who does a lot of stuff for him. Most superhero writing is bad. They're perfect and talented at everything skill wise and their problems come from their relationships, trauma and villains. They're not depicted as people who actually have to work hard to learn things. They're smart because they don't have to learn. They just know. You could make the argument that Peter Parker is supposed to be more relatable and mechanical web shooters isn't as effective at portraying that I suppose. In general it bugs me when the science guys don't make their stuff open sourced for a trusted pool of heroes. It doesn't work the same for him to shout "I'm out of bodily fluids!" On the other hand, having him invent a military-grade holding solution makes him a bit less relatable. And what materials did Peter use considering that he's just above poverty? And why can't people reverse-engineer it from samples? And if Peter tried to sell it to the military and they said no, why isn't there someone who remembers that sticky substance that one kid from the science fair sent to them? It's as stupid as nobody remembering that the Batmobile in the Nolanverse was a rejected military vehicle. I guess it all comes down to what you're looking for in a hero. If you see Spider-Man as a relatable ordinary nerd who lucked out and got super powers, then organic is better. If you view Spider-Man as someone who was always destined for greatness, then go with the web cartridges. For me personally, Spider-Man is the relatable superhero.
