First was picking up a weekend six pack, the second was buying a pack of smokes this morning.

The thing is, I dont look young. My beards going silver, ffs, and it is thick and lustrous.

It's a CYA thing.

I know people who flat-out card everyone because you can get screwed if you mess it up nowadays.

Same, I got all this salt n pepper going on and still get carded. Nay bother though.

Maybe they were flirting with you or trying to make you feel good. It's like when you card a 74 old woman and ask if her mother knows she's buying alcohol. Then her 98 year old mother comes in a yells at her.

Yeah, that makes sense. In both cases, the person specifically said it was because I look young, which is the weird thing.

My uncle owns a liquor store and local police send in kids who looks borderline the legal drinking age all the time trying to bust him. Cigs and vapes too.

The key is to look like someone that would really fuck them up for daring to inconvenience you. Get a couple of facial tattoos, a septum ring, and throw a braid or two in that "thick and lustrous" graying beard.

If they try to card you looking like that, then just look them unblinking into the eye until it gets awkward enough that they recant.

Or just take 5 seconds and show them your ID.

Do what you want to do.

Police and stores literally send in mystery/secret shoppers meant to find out where they aren't carding, and police will use underaged shoppers to do it.

They will lose their job if caught in these situations, and can face jail time or fines if it is the police. The store will also be heavily fined. Don't make a big deal of it.

Just have the card ready when you go in the store to make the process quick and easy.

If its a place you frequent, show it enough times that they learn to know you.

Carding is mandatory at some stores around here. If you don't have an ID that scans they won't sell you anything with an over 21 requirement.

Yeah, I never get why some people act like its a huge bother. I keep my money and my ID in my wallet. Takes an extra 2 seconds out of my day to show it.

My local grocery store cards the elderly for beer.
