Starfield and Adam Jensen actor Elias Toufexis, whose credits also include Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, and The Callisto Protocol, says that the absence of a new Deus Ex game is insane. The last main series outing for the sci-fi, stealth RPG from Eidos and Square Enix was Deus Ex Mankind Divided back in 2016. Before that, we had Deus Ex Human Revolution, the revered prequel to Ion Storms defining 2000 immersive sim. Now, as part of a series of responses regarding a Cyberpunk 2077 mod, Toufexis shares his opinion on the lack of a new Deus Ex game.

Discussing a new mod for CDPRs Cyberpunk 2077, which unofficially adds Jensen to Night City using an AI recreation of Toufexis voice, the actor says its clear the character is still popular.

One, this shouldnt be a thing, the actor writes, responding to the Cyberpunk 2077 mod that recreates his voice. You want my voice in a game? Pay me. Two, people are making mods of Adam Jensen all over the place, showing how popular he is, and we havent made a new Deus Ex. Thats insane.
In one of his most recent performances, Toufexis plays Sam Coe, the former Akila ranger in Starfield. Replying to his comments regarding Deus Ex, one X user says, Mankind Divided didnt sell good enough so the next game was canned. Not exactly, Toufexis replies, but that was part of it.
The creator of the Adam Jensen mod for Cyberpunk 2077 also replies to Toufexis, saying that the mod has been removed. As soon as I heard Elias had an issue it was down within ten mins, the modder says. I back this up, Toufexis replies.

In May 2022, Eidos Montreal, the developer of both Deus Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex Mankind Divided, was purchased by Embracer Group, alongside Tomb Raider creator Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Montreal.
We further strengthened our development capabilities and IP portfolioincluding Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and other IPs, Embracer said in a 2022 financial report. We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs as well as transmedia projects across the group.

He makes a good point since Squeenix fucked over Mankind Divided's hype so badly with the most unnecessary MTX scheme ever.

Anyway it's cool he gives a shit about the IP.

Deus Ex is such a strange franchise TBH

The inconsistency in quality of the games, direction, atmosphere and worldbuilding is all over the place.

Even HR and MD are on different wavelengths

I think Mankind Divided is really underrated. Its a big shame the game doesnt have a satisfying conclusion but Prague is such an amazing city to explore and for my money the peak of immersive sim level design.

I like seeing Mankind Divided gain the reputation it has over the last 2-3 years for having an extremely high quality but humbly sized city to explore. Prague is one of my favorite environments in any game. It came out too soon after HR and if I remember right, it was the onset of the mtx days and it had a hilariously bad e-shop and or loot boxes.

My first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough was me accidentally going about it Deus Ex style because stealth hacking was so broken and OP it was just way too fun playing a different style otherwise.

Prague is great, but the problem is Prague is all there is.

Prague feels like it should be the 1st location you visit in a globetrotting adventure. Like NYC in the original. But the whole game takes place there and ends really abrutly and really quickly halfway through the story with a main villain you barely interact with.

It's just so unsatisfying as an experience despite the effort the team put into Prague.

Hell looking back I don't think any of the characters or their dynamics land. I can't even remember the names of your boss, the pilot, the female aug agent, the villain, the evil psychologist, the guy who ran the aug city.

I can remember Jock and Bob Page and Manderly and Maggie Chow and Paul.
I can remember Sarif, Megan Reed, Malik, Pritchard, Haas, Barrett.
I can remember Billie Adams, Nassif, Chad, Luminon, Donna Morgan, Sid Black.

And they are all older characters from older games. Nothing MD clicked and the weird "Augs as racial segreation" thing was so over the top it lost all value as political commentary that it could have had. Let alone not fitting into the original.

Mankind Divided wasn't "bad" but jeepers creepers was it totally flawed from a gameplay, worldbuilding, story and character perspective. You can't solely blame the poor sales on the bad DLC and pre-order businsess practices. The game just flat out wasn't up to snuff.

Edit:

Major spoilers

I would like to add that the "Adam Jenson actually died at the end of HR and the Adam Jenson in MD is a clone" fan theory is one of my favorite fan theories out there and whether they intended or not I really hope that's the direction they would have gone with in a hypothetical 3rd Adam Jenson game. It works so well thematically.

It's an Enhanced Edition, not a remake. Nightdive secured a budget/good faith on remaking System Shock 1 by first releasing an EE that was more or less all the QoL mods over the years rolled into a steam release. It was popular so between sales and a kickstarter they remade System Shock 1.

Now they're releasing that same "patch" style EE for 2, leading to speculation a remake announcement is around the corner. Not marred by controversy, however, 1's Remake is currently in publisher hell. A remarkable amount of content is not finished and kickstarter promises are not kept, nor are the console releases out. The word is the publisher wants more money and is holding two massive, already completed patches back.

*Cough*

Male/Female Protag
GamePig + About Five interactable vending machines
OG Soundtrack Support
Steam Cloud Support
Mission Waypoints/Objective Markers are broken since launch (For 1,2 difficulty modes)
Enemy reinforcements are bugged, the game doesn't spawn even 50% as many enemies as it should (Discord/Steam discussions on it)
A ton of portrait art. Near the middle to end of the game, many NPC's have a 404 or duplicate portrait. Audio logs repeat; two dozen are in the game-files and are improperly coded in the game.
Entire ending boss fight is a garbage placeholder from the Kickstarer days. Originally promised to be fixed shortly after launch, nearly a year later it's still only in the rumor/clips on discord phase.

*Kickstarter Promises people paid for and aren't done

Character Genders
Physical Goods
Console Release
Disc Release

Jeez

Don't get me wrong I loved the remake. I'm a horror fan and it was my favorite of the big remakes this year including Dead Space and RE4. It just has a lot of work to go, but has only had virtually one patch before the devs got frozen up by something related to the publisher.

Steam forums now are saying they cut funding until the console releases are out. Makes sense a publisher would want the money for that market, and is upset nearly a year of hype is dried up before those could happen.

I mean, people have been asking for this since launch, but Cyberpunks recent rebound definitely wouldn't get the wheels rolling on another DE so soon. If anything, it's previous controversy would make the publisher second guess making a cyberpunk game. We can only hope it's second life does convince the publisher to make one in the near future

I stealth hacked a lot in Cyberpunk. Got your set up right and you could fuck up the majority of the enemies before they detected you. Sometimes I even managed to wipe em all out.

Nah stealth hacking was fun.

Think it was contagion I used where it would spread to so many other enemies within a distance. Usually wouldn't kill em but them I had stuff like short circuit to finish em off

Unfortunately I get it. The far majority of immersive sims in the last few years have flopped hard. Hell throughout their entire history the genre has struggled.

I don't want an open world Deus Ex game like Cyberpunk 2077.

Yeah normal stealth sucked. But it seemed fine using hacking.

Most games not designed specifically around stealth tend to suck at stealth. Think it was thr feeling of being nearly unstoppable as you topple enemies without lifting a finger that did it for me.

Like stealth In skyrim sucks. It's op as a archer but it's really not that fun.

Without archery Making it op I doubt many would have fucked with it

Mankind Divided was unfortunately dead on arrival after the microtransaction controversies, and the "Augment your Preorder" bullshit.

...Dammit, remember the days when crap like that was enough to get a game pilloried on arrival? Mankind Divided, Shadow of War, Battlefront 2... it almost feels quaint, now with how egregious publishers have gotten.
