Is there any reason given for this. Like now I can see her being an old woman as Peter gets older himself. But like from the start he was like in high school and the she was like 80. She is Aunt May not Nana May.

It's actually canon that there was a significant gap between the births of Ben and Richard Parker. And yes, this sort of thing was much more common decades ago, especially considering a higher rate of infant mortality means that there were likely other siblings born between them who might not have even lived to see Richard's birth, let alone made it to adulthood themselves.

It really doesnt make sense now that you mention it, especially given how things used to be. Both my grandmothers were married at like 15 / 16 I think, 18 at the latest, and both had a lot of kids (4 boys 2 girls and 5 girls 2 boys respectively) relatively close together, so if anything Id expect Aunt May and Uncle Ben to be even younger than an aunt and uncle normally would.

Ben was the older brother of Peter's father, and it was stated that he was considerably older than Peter's father was. That's why.

Yeah, but the question is if that makes sense because he looks like hed have to be 20 years older than however old Peters father was, and that seems like an exceedingly rare age gap between siblings.

It's not common but also not that unusual for a parent and their sibling to be more then ten years or apart, and not every couple has to have children right away, some wait or can't have kids right away for health reasons.

Eh, it's rare, but not "this doesn't make sense" rare. I know somebody who is I think 17 years younger than their older sister. Their parents had her sister when they were rather young, didn't think they wanted another kid, then changed their minds some 17 years later.

I also don't think we know how old Peter's parents actually were when they had him. For example, let's say they were... 30. And let's say Ben is 15 years older. That'd make Ben 60 when Peter was 15.

Im not saying its impossible. Im mainly pointing out that them being that much older and still being aunt and uncle doesnt really do anything for the story that them either being younger or being called grandma and grandpa wouldnt.

My half brother was always an uncle. The age gap between his father's oldest child and him was pretty massive and his dad was already a grandfather when he was born.

i don't see where's the problem?
brothers can have huge differences in age and you can also be older then your uncle so i don't see why can't they be that old in relation to him,it's also possible that they are his great uncles

it's also possible that Peter's father was quite old when he had Peter, men can have kids up to their 70's

Yes, but the question is: what does a 60-70 year old aunt and uncle do for the story that a 40-45 year old aunt and uncle or a 60-70 year old grandma and grandpa wouldnt?

It's certainly possible to have a decent age range between siblings and thus have an older aunt or uncle, but god damn, in some of those comics they got Aunt May lookin' like a decrepit monkey skeleton. Like a great great aunt to Pete.

Both the age and degree of separation add to a sense of Peter's isolation. He's the orphan kid who lives with his elderly aunt and uncle. That makes him different.

There can be a large age difference between siblings. People also looked older in their 40s and 50s when Spiderman was first written.

But the real reason is that the writers wanted a contrast and an easily visible generation gap between the youthful, self-centred Peter, and his solid, traditional guardians.
