I've played RE2make, RE3make, RE4make and 5 and 6.

i've enjoyed most of them.

I have 7 but i haven't played it yet.

my one acquaintance says its RE4 but shitty but he also gets all his gaming opinions from youtube.

Im sure many disagree but RE is RE to me. Despite the changes in gameplay I feel it is one of the most consistent franchises in gaming. I think if you enjoyed all those other titles you will most likely enjoy Village.

tbf i enjoyed 5 and 6 mostly because i was playing them with a friend and we were being total dumbasses throughout both of them

It's really good, but you do kind of have to play RE7 first

Village is a direct sequel. Not that you can't play Village first, it just expects you to know the plot of 7.

If you can enjoy 5 and 6 you can absolutely dig Village. 7 (at face value) seems more serious, but Village entirely embraces the batshit camp from 6.

i'm gonna wait until my bills all go through and then see what i have left first... but i do think i want it.

7 is the better game for sure

I enjoyed 8 when I played it. I'd say it's easily worth that price tag if you like the series. It's just more RE, pretty much. It certainly does follow 4's lead on a lot of things, but I wouldn't call it "shitty".

It was far from my favorite RE, though. Definitely has its flaws. Also keep in mind that unlike other RE games, it was designed for first person. It got third person mode in a dlc but I'm not sure if you have to pay for it.

I'd argue 7 is the better game on your 1st playthrough

But on replays Village does a much better job at keeping things fresh. 7 Doesn't even let you skip cutscenes (Except 1, weirdly)

Id argue Village is the better game for what this style of RE is trying to be, but 7 has way better extra modes and side content. Kind of missed that for Village.

i do like campy shit over spooky shit.

i really don't do well with tense atmospheric horror. like Dead Space freaks me the fuck out, and I cannot and will not play any horror game that doesn't give me tools to fight back.

Only for one portion of the game (about 20% of it), and that enemy in 8 is pretty easy to duck from my recollection.

He is stressful, but you will appreciate that all the more eventually.

He's arguably more stressful than Mr X because he isn't as easy to outplay.

But Mr X chases you for half the game. In RE7 it happens like 3 times.

Village is one of the worst in series. Its a bit better than 6 and 0, but thats about it.

would anybody be interested in watching a coward play RE7?

i'm thinking about streaming it. i would have streamed it for halloween but i didn't get it installed in time

If you enjoyed re4 you'll love this one. It's a first person version of it, real fun times. But yeah, play 7 first, it's good.

Village improves on OG 4 in almost every quantifable way

Then RE4make came out and gave it a run for its money.

But I will maintain that anyone who argues constant crappy QTEs, sluggish controls, long dull corridors and extended Ashley escort sections, were a masterpiece is wearing rose-tinted glasses.

OG RE4 is dated as hell with copious amounts of bad game design.

I find it surprising you hate 6 that much but love 4. 6 to me feels like the natural outcome in both narrative, tone and gameplay of what 4 started.

Given that 4 is held in high regard by most players and 6 is almost universally considered to be the lowest point of the series, Im not sure many people would agree with your assessment.

Not a hero is set directly after the main game
End of Zoe is set directly after Not a hero

The rest are all prequel content, side content or non canon game modes.

You can play them in any order

Is 7 a soft reboot? There are full action spinoffs that came out after 6 and I feel 7 and 8 follow up on 6 pretty well. Spoilering for TC.

7 only feels more return to roots at the start, it quickly becomes just as batshit as 6 was. Then there is stuff like the One Punch Man DLC. Village wasnt much different and then the Rose DLC did exactly what people predicted would happen after 6, and I think subsequent titles will one-up that even more. The main difference is that 6 shows the global scale of B.O.W. usage while 7/8 are more secluded locales.

I spent most of October playing 7 and Village for the first time. I think Village is an improvement and 7 is kinda bare-bones by comparison, but there is a stretch of 7 that is just classic RE that I love. It's definitely subjective to a degree based on the game's different tones, but to me Village is up there among the best RE games.

yeah i'm gonna hold off on it for now while i still have 7 to go through. hopefully it goes on sale for the Steam Winter Sale

RE8 is great, I really enjoyed it.
