Most sites are owned by large companies and commercialized to the point of feeling soulless. Also the world in general is much faster than it was say 20 years ago. Technology has gone from bringing us together to isolating up more than ever. It'd be nice if CE as a whole just had fun with it, but too many have become bitter or very opinionated. And the internet in general is less fun now that's its corporatized and everyone and their grandma (literally for some people) are on the internet. As for the political topics dominating, yeah it's annoying but it also make sense since we're all boring adults now, it makes sense for people to follow or care about things and issues that didn't matter to them as teenagers.
