As a former ohioan who abandoned ship, I'm hoping Ohio pulls through a second time and votes yes on issue 1.

Stick it to those conniving, slimy, borderline cheating republican shitwits organizing the ballot.

So far, Ohio is seeing a lot of record turnout for early voting: https://twitter.com/WhenWeAllVote/status/1721648499865825423

I just cannot get my head around how scummy and yet alarmingly simple the whole arrangement was, from the right.

1. Ban August special elections on the grounds of their having low turnout and unfairly pushing things through that would otherwise fail Fair enough.

2. Set up an August special election two months later to make it nearly impossible for voters to ammend the state constitution, yo block an abortion amendment in November. A shitty, hypocritical move.

3. Force pro-life organizations to push "vote No on issue 1" to stop your bullshit roadblock bill.

4. Hypocritical roadblock bill fails. Good.

5. Make the abortion ammendment Issue 1, so the pro-life campaigners have to hard pivot to "Vote YES on issue 1," immediately after riding their victory and with barely two months to the election.

It's such a shameless, brazen, yet brilliantly simple move to confuse voters and flagrantly throw out the will of the people.

I only hope that it confuses the simple-minded among their own voter base, as well.

Predictions:

Dems keep VA Senate, lose VA House again narrowly

Kentucky too close to call for quite a while; Dem internals only have Beshear up 2, so I think Cameron inches it out, but it'll be within 1-2%. The race has tightened a lot, abortion is a marquee issue, and it's a southern state where that might not play as well as it does in the Midwest for Dems. The vote on changing the constitution last year to enable abortion bans was close enough that I don't think a Dem can be comfortable here. Beshear could win b/c of high favorables tho

Reeves wins MS, but Pressley probably keeps it within 5-7%, capturing some of the white vote

Ohio abortion protections pass, probably by 5-10%. Could be more of a margin here given how badly the Ohio amendment failed this summer.

NJ isn't competitive at all; holds for Dems, probably by pretty wide margins compared to 2021.

I think Biden's unfavorables might sink Dem popularity/sentiment this cycle honestly but I doubt it translates to single issue stuff like abortion that's benefitted from high suburb turnout.

Don't forget purging ~ 180,000 registered voters in the midst of all that.

The process of purging itself - originally intended for deaths or relocations - probably cost more in time and resources than if they'd just left the names alone. There is no evidence of significant or widespread voter fraud in Ohio or anywhere else, fwiw.

If there's no blue wave, I think Biden is in serious trouble. Portions of his base are crumbling or becoming apathetic. If it takes abortion and convictions to get people to vote Biden in for a second term, that's fine. But I don't think anything will be learned for 2028 or Kamala Harris.

A lot can happen in a year and if Dems bomb tomorrow maybe they'll be scared into taking things seriously. Same thing happened from 2021-2022, so who knows

I bring up New York in particular because of Long Island politics.

Our first test of whether George Santos has down-ballot effects. I'm seeing a lot more Republican mailers and signs. But I do think my Dem county legislator candidate has noticeable edge with local businesses. He would be the first Asian American in our legislature and coming from the largest melting pot in the area.

Personally, I'm not going to read too much into tomorrow's results either way.

Yes, it's (just) under a year until the presidential election, but for Democrats, Kentucky (Beshear notwithstanding), Mississippi, and Ohio are tough cards to have in your hand, especially in an off-year. And the epic shenanigans in Ohio have drawn national attention.

NY & NJ, I expect to return to more normal patterns (for them): Liberal Democrats and/or Centrist Republicans.

We'll see what happens.

Where I live, I've seen plenty of support for Beshear.

Not necessarily to the point where I think he's a given to win over Cameron (it is a very red state), but enough to where I don't think it's a lost cause just yet.

Alternatively, it could mean that more Democrats may vote on election day than they did before when early voting was emphasized by the party. Also, this part about Maine interests me: https://twitter.com/L2political/status/1721584646540968159
