The open nature of Android, limitless customization, and broad selection of third party apps are all really cool and great. I just realized that I, personally, never use them >_>

I have spaces on my home page but that's something I can adjust to / work around. I have a couple special apps but I can do the same thing with ios AltStore. Otherwise, I just don't reap the benefits of Android personally. And then I tried an iPhone and really liked how it felt to use and navigate.

Still not sure if I want a normal phone or a plus/max size, I've never gotten bigger than 6.1" and I'm worried about 6.7" for longer term ergonomics, although the larger screen would be really nice for media like manga.

All the stuff that people claim Android is great for, I use a PC or laptop for anyway

Also I have an iPhone 13 mini, I dont think they make that size anyone but its nice being able to easily access the entire screen

Same. I've never had one so it's such a bitch. Even unlocking it is annoying. I swipe up and I keep getting all notifications or the face scan and I can't get to the number lock.

Depends what's bugging you about Android tbh. As a very happy 15 Pro Max user, a lot of the niggles I had with Android have been sorted, such as the lack of long term updates and the sluggishness of the UI. Even the app store has come leaps and bounds. I also like that you don't have to drop 4 figures to get a 120hz screen and I can't understand why people give Apple a pass on this omission on the base iPhones.

As for plus size, depends how large your hands are tbh. Most Androids have a narrower aspect ratio, so a comparably sized iPhone is gonna feel bigger. I do also love that larger screen though. If the plus is comfortable for you, go for it.

Android not only has customisation and 3rd party apps, it also has modded apps for most popular services like YouTube, Twitch, video streaming (Netflix but not Netflix), music streaming (Spotify). Mods that include ad blocking, bg playback etc. For free, if you know where to look

You need to swipe from the bottom rather than randomly on the screen. Probably just because I've had an iPhone for 5+ years, but I've never struggled to just swipe from the bottom.

Apple altstore has uYou+extra for Youtube, and for other streaming I prefer PC and my full size TV.

Well the normal 15 pro is almost identical in size to the S21 I have but slightly heavier and honestly, the S21 seems like the upper limit of weight and width in terms of how I tend to use it one handed like if I'm reading manga in bed. But being discouraged from using my phone in bed like that is not necessarily a bad thing given my average screen time.

Neither do I, but it's still a better experience than iOS.

Why is there no back button on iOS?
Why can't I put apps where I want to in the home screen?
Why is the gesture system not consistent among apps?
Why can't I schedule a message in iMessage?
Why is there still no numbers row in the stock keyboard?

Some of these and many more are small quality of life features when added together go a long way in establishing a great user experience.

I've had to help my mom with hers (I have a droid, she has an iphone), and I have the direct opposite opinion. Apple is supposed to be user-friendly and yet something that is so logical via android had me exploring different functions and window/arrow features on hers.

I cant consider an iPhone until I can easily sideload YouTube Premium alternatives and wirelessly transfer my FLAC music to an iPhone and have the same quality experience Id have with ALAC.

I do love the iPad though, as I mainly use it to read books, and in my experience iOS has a reading app thets better than anything on Android (MapleRead SE), but it has things that annoy me. I dont know what fucking gesture does it, but sometimes I accidentally split my Safari window and cant figure out how to get it back into a single window without just closing one of them and navigating to where I was in a new tab on the other one.

Aside from iVanced being a fork of uYou, there doesnt seem to be a big between the two. There was a bug I experienced with uYou where switching to another app and returning to YT would cause the video playing in the background to be a black screen. I use YTLitePlus, which is basically uYou but without the ability to download videos.

I felt like this except for iPhone. I wish there was a book reading app on the iPhone that was as good as Moon+ Reader.

I think they mean a universal back button. Android has a button at the bottom of the screen which is always a back button, similar to how the home button is always a home button.

NGL I've never seen the big deal tbh.

On Android, you have the back button on the bottom and it's consistent among ALL system apps, third-party apps, etc. You can switch it to gestures and the back gesture/swipe has the same function - it's consistent and you can use it on BOTH sides of the screen for added convenience.

On android there is always a button in the lower right corner that does the same thing. On iOS sometimes there's a button in the top left or else you're supposed to always be able to swipe from the left of the screen to go back but sometimes that doesn't work even in iOS software.

What the back button does changes slightly depending on the app. Generally speaking it does one of the following things:
  1. If using a browser, same as the back button on a browser.
  2. In app menus, it will travel one layer up.
  3. In app home screens it will exit the app.
To switch between apps there's a different button that's basically a dedicated alt+tab equivalent.

These buttons also have alternative behavior for long presses. Like holding down the app switching button is how you multitask apps in android.

Universal back button. Theres no consistent way to back out of everything on iOS based on the app and what youre doing in it. Sometimes its in the bottom row, sometimes the top. Sometimes its nonexistent and you have to swipe to get out of it like YouTube shorts. But you swipe to the left or right to get out instead of up or down, which is what you do in YouTube video, to get out of the YouTube short.

That takes you to the Home Screen, not go back. As in if Im watching a YouTube video, the way to go back to the YouTube Home Screen is different then watching a YouTube short to go back to the Home Screen which is different then trying to type a comment on YouTube and then going back to the video.

Shit like full swipe / half swipe / swipe in different directions / hold swipe / swipe commands change depending on the app / etc just to perform basic navigation features on your phone doesn't sound intuitive at all. It sounds needlessly complex.

Like imagine if Alt+F4 didn't work on a PC. Sure most every application has a unique way to quit, and you can always use the nuclear option in the task Manager, but having a universal shortcut that quits every application is extremely convenient and it's the same for the back button on the phone.

YouTube and other apps have an X somewhere that you can click to go back but I don't ever care about that because I know I can just hit the back button.

It's a pretty natural progression to turn any home or back button into a 100% touch screen function. Guaranteed if Android phones phased out the back button but iOS still used it, Android users would make fun of iOS for not getting with the times.

I do wish iPhones still had the 3D Touch feature that the iPhone X had tho

It already is a touch screen function. Android has no real buttons except volume and power. Some OEMs have extra shit like Bixby button but that's not standard.
