Got tired of waiting for someone to make a topic since I wanna see what people think of the ending. I personally loved it even though it was slightly confusing at first.

Before we get into the actual details, I just want to warn y'all that there will be unmarked spoilers so if you haven't seen the ending please stop reading here.

Now with that out of the way, let the spoilers commence!

Forget the ending. I demand justice for my best friend Roche! Fuck Hojo! Hit me harder than Aerith's 'death' or whatever's going on lol

Roche is great! Though I kinda figured he would die since he wasn't in the original game. Granted he's not exactly dead yet, maybe he'll be healed and become bros with Cloud and Zack.

As for Aerith, there's some multiverse shenanigans going on (which was hinted at in Remake), but she is in fact dead. At least the one that we've been travelling with is. We can only guess how the alternate timelines will effect the main one in the third installment.

The original story is still overall in tact though. Sephiroth's goal has just shifted from taking over one planet to taking over all of them now.

They need to have him ride in like a maniac during the final Sephiroth fight to take part in the "standoff" moment. That or at the very least help kill Hojo by crashing into him via motorcycle

Also yeah how Cloud took the whole Aerith thing is way different than the OG and Aerith might survive in the other world if Zack can do what Marlene said. Then maybe she'll rejoin if/when the "merge" happens. Afterall, she never got her endgame gear and final limit break.

Not exactly unless I missed it. Last I recall seeing him was when he was having a bloody seizure fit or something while in the shinra copter with Rufus and Hojo as the whole Black Materia scene was happening. He's still kinda alive but part of the robed zombie gang

Yeah I was bummed they didn't go off the rails and just had them save Aerith especially with them having Cloud actually do it but pull a fakeout (unless that was another world or something). If you are going to play up the whole messing with the plot thing in remake then go all in!

I mean sure Aerith may come back with Zack's ongoing shenanigans and his goal of flipping the bird to fate but guess we'll see in the last part. They also had Tifa fall into the lifestream and learn some stuff a lot earlier

Yeah she'll most likely return for the next game, either as an alternate timeline version or they find a way to revive her. I think they still needed to "kill" her because it's a focal point for the story. Like she HAS to die in order for the world(s) to be saved.

Sephiroth knows that has to happen though, so he should know that it's what ultimately causes his failure. I wonder what plan he has to deal with that.

I was surprised it didn't go off the rails. Ended up feeling like the whole Zack timeline thing was mostly a contrievance to have Zack/Cloud dual techs possible. And I guess to learn his fate is getting shot down by shinra troops no matter what.

Since they are going Rebuild style on this I think will go more off the rails in the finale

So if I wanna finish up the final protorelic, and all minigame rewards, do I just pick Chapter 12? Do I have to progress all the way to beating Rufus to be in the state of everything unlocked?

Chapter 13 you are free as it starts you at CDS and you can go wherever

The fact that there is an ng+ option to just cut out Zack's story is so funny to me. True, it doesn't really have gameplay so it saves time, but it it's like they're telling me it doesn't matter. And you know what? On a replay just for the story, I would not mind acting like it doesn't exist.

Watched a playthrough -- I think they wiffed the ending on what was otherwise wonderful to see. They have probably one more game to justify it in the story, so we'll see the rest of what they're trying to to do.

I'm so impressed with how the characters are represented. I used to never like Yuffie and Cait Sith -- now they're engaging like the rest of the cast. That's so surprising and cool.

The orchestration for Golden Saucer was bombastic.

They spent way too long trying to justify the weird multiversal shit. For a game that was doing a very good job building up character dynamics and relationships. However, they keep jumping back and forth between things, and made the final scenes a "go for broke all out crazy fever dream.". Cool visual spectacle and Cloud's even more an unreliable narrator...but fucking hell. FF just can't keep things simple, can they?

Has anyone done the (what I assume to be) the last sidequest for the Golden Saucer? The party animal one. There's a headbanger metal chocobo song that plays during the race, fucking blew me away! I need to know the title of the song if someone can help me out plz

oh I should've posted my spoiler thoughts in here instead of a giant block of spoiler text in the other topic.... would feel bad to copy and paste it, I'll just say bad final dungeon, really bad final boss sequence, bad ending, wonderful game otherwise. Just maddening because I loved the game so much up until today when I decided to go to the Temple and it was just all downhill from there.

Costa del Sol boss fight probably favourite part of the game? (or at least favourite boss fight sequence, so much good stuff there)

Cait Sith sequence worst part of any FF7 game ever?

I didn't hate the Cait Sith sequence at all. I loved rolling around as him. Sure, throwing things was slow, but I thought the whole thing was totally fine.

But I also main Cait and really enjoy playing as him so that definitely helps.

Yuffie's segment to lower the bridge though, that was definitely my least favorite segment of the whole game. Barely any of her group (Tifa and Barret) even talk to each other during the whole trip up and it's just a hassle. Only saving grace is that the boss fight is fun with the tornados and throwing spells into them.

I think the implication is that no matter what version of Aerith that exists, Sephiroth will always hunt her down and kill her and Zack/Cloud can do nothing about it regardless how much they want to.

Final thoughts: 9.95/10. Wow. Blown away at the effort and detail in this game. Final boss gauntlet was INCREDIBLE.

I loved all the Zack stuff, seeing my boy back again I was terrified of at first but I loved his inclusion here.

Reunion being rebranded in a way to mean the unification of all realities was pretty sweet too. I was skeptical on the whole idea but I'm on board now and very excited for part 3 and any DLC before then.

I cannot STAND Paw Patrol Red XIII. What a blemish on an otherwise unforgettable experience top to bottom.

I also skipped all side quests. Like every single one. Not a single side quest completed. So I know I missed a lot, but I wanted to keep the pacing going and to digest the story as fast as possible before the internet got to me. I'll be doing NG+ Hard Mode and full clearing it all though. Cause the CREDITS HAD SPOILERS IN IT. Gilgamesh?! Okay, gotta go find him.

All things considered, I'm no longer scared of what comes with part 3 cause this team clearly knows what they're doing when it comes to making a satisfying game and experience for FF7 fans.

Why are the different multiverses named after dogs?

Because they are denoted by the Shinra Propaganda dog Stamp changing breeds based on the universe jump.

Usually you can see it on chip bags, but other times walls or plushies.

Was nomura in charge of this one too? A comment that I saw after the first game had really started to come out with the twist, someone was like "Nomura needs to calm down with his fighting against fate fetish" and man this game sure seems like more of that!

Nomura didn't write anything in OG, so I would think Kitase and others have just as much fondness for weird shit.

From what I heard Nomura pushed back on even more weird shit being added into Rebirth. No idea on Rebirth.

Either way, I think it's still fair to call stuff like that 'Nomura-isms'. He started it with Kingdom Hearts, and others followed his example.

Yeah I was going to say, sorry Nomura but you're the connecting throughline between wacky KH shit and wacky FF shit so you're going to get tarred with this brush.

I was predicting before Rebirth and I'm 1000% expecting in the 3rd game (....spoilers for Kingdom Hearts 3 sorry but I have to put a spoiler warning here) we get the everyone "resurrected" (merged from other FF7 world), everyone lives happily ever after ending. They did pull off bringing everyone back pretty masterfully in KH3 and there's prime opportunity here w/ Aerith, Zack and Avalanche crew as counterparts to the 358/2 and BBS returnees.

Or maybe that's my own hopefulness/bias seeping in here, lol... third time's the charm on getting a good game ending (vs. Kingdom Hearts which had really satisfying final boss and ending sequences in all three mainline titles???)

I mean from my experience most JRPGs involve some kind of "defying fate" theme. How many of them end with you fighting a god? All of them? Seems about right.

I think I'd actually be kinda bummed with an "everyone lives" ending.

Zack and Aerith riding off into the ghost sunset at the end of Advent Children was good enough for me.

But it does seem to be heading in that direction.

A narrative can balance Defying Fate and having to accept bad developments in life. OG FF7 did exactly that.

I wanna say Tifa is gonna have a harder time fixing this Cloud's mind than she did in the og xD Everyone is grieveing and Cloud is smiling. In his head Aerith is fine somewhere, or he's fine cus he was able to say goodbye to her or whatever, and it will add to that disconnect with the party. Yo Cloud why aren't you sad like the rest of us? Are you really an emotionless puppet? Etc etc.

Well I do agree that an everyone lives ending would be lame. Just like it was for KH3. Still haven't gotten over how poorly (lazily) that was done.

I mean, we the player know it's because only he went through the whisper wall this time (as opposed to everyone at the end of Remake), but that is something they should all know too.

How long it takes them to come around to that realization is the bigger question.

I was actually thinking they were gonna kill Tifa off instead, given the higher amount of Cloud/Tifa scenes in the game.

It would have probably still have been bad, but a simple bait and switch "get stabbed and die" would have been more preferable to the multiverse nonsense.

It's not completely off the table considering Sephiroth personally gets involved in Gilgamesh nonsense! This Sephiroth seems more down for occasional silliness like when he encouraged Cloud to have fun at the Gold Saucer
