My wife and I primarily use two credit cards (we have more, but generally only spend these two). Between those two credit cards, we spent almost $60k. Holy fuck.

What other cards do you have? If you split the Citi Double Cash purchases into other cards you couldve gotten more points back.

Forgot about our Amazon store card, because we use Amazon a lot... $17.5k on Amazon:

This also doesn't include direct ACH transfers for three large house projects we did last year. God damn, we need to stop spending money.

I have all sorts of non-annual fee cards, like Chase Freedom, Chase Flex, Discover, etc. I used to play the 5% cash back rotating categories game, and then just got tired of keeping track and started using the Double Cash for everything except gas, restaurants, and Costco purchases (these three go to the Costco card).

I'm sort of now thinking of getting back into the 5% rotating category game, or even getting a premium card (like Chase Sapphire Reserve) and locking into Ultimate Rewards program.

The only reason I don't want to do this is because we are able to travel for very cheap, so miles/points aren't really that valuable. For example, we have a yearly-use timeshare property that was gifted to us (where we just pay the annual maintenance fee and no mortgage), which grants us access to the RCI network of cheap resorts (e.g., ~$300/week all over the US for timeshares that are vacant), we get our Hilton hotel stays for extremely cheap under government GSA rates for personal travel, and any flights we just book the cheapest possible flight (vs. being locked into one airline for loyalty).

I would still look up the Chase or Citi trifecta to break down your categories. Yeah its a pain to remember which card to use but you should take advantage of the points you could be getting back.

So you've paid them off fully, right?

Right?

I stopped using my debit card ages ago, rather put everything on credit and pay it off at the end of the month to 0 and rack up the points. Much easier to dispute transactions on a credit card rather than dealing with your bank too.

You're correct. My ex had someone get her debit card number and steal $1,200 on random internet purchases. The bank made her wait 90 days to get it back.

That is a lot. You each spend $2400 per month using credit cards. Can't be just mandatory expenses. Not sure what you're buying but it's like double what I do and there's two of you doing it.

You said they were paid off so you spending that much is fine.

Yea, but it seems excessive. Even with all these spendings, we have nothing to show for it (like its not a new car) I want to save more. Maybe retire early.
