HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY! Have you thanked your local women yet? No? Who am I kidding, we're on Board 8. None of us talk to any women.

Discussion Topic: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80708068 (if you want to complain about this topic series do it here and not in the current topic)

Rules: If you list more than 4 things I'm gonna just pick the first 4 you say when I do the tally. If you list the same character multiple times I'm going to count it as 1 vote. Be nice. Don't shove your personal definition of "Mount Rushmore" down others' throats. Have fun. If you're going to majorly change a vote please quote your old vote to make it easier for me.

First Lady-specific rules: Must have occupied the office of the FLOTUS. See the Wikipedia list below, they need to be on there on they don't count.

PREVIOUS RESULTS:

YouTube Sponsors: Raid Shadow Legends, NordVPN, SquareSpace, HelloFresh
Pizza Toppings: Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Sausage, Pineapple
Smash Bros. Items: Pokeball, Hammer, Home Run Bat, Assist Trophy
Non-Noble Nine: L-Block, Pikachu, Vincent, Tifa
Bad video games: ET, Superman 64, Big Rigs, Sonic 06
Video Game Villains: Bowser, Sephiroth, Ganondorf, Dr. Eggman
Cereal Mascots: Tony the Tiger, Trix Rabbit, Lucky, Cap'n Crunch

YESTERDAY: We had a briefly close race for second, third AND fourth, with an absolute battle that slowly started to even out through the end of page 1.

Toucan Sam made several plays to make it onto the Rushmore but would consistently lose steam upon getting within spitting distance of Lucky and Cap'n Crunch.

Buzz the Bee may now hold the record for most people that voted for him without even knowing his name, which explains why a mascot so iconic could get so few votes compared to his peers.

There was randomly some discourse based on how US-centric the cereal choices were, as if Mount Rushmore wasn't an American concept, in America, hand-carved by Bandit Keith. Didn't expect a UK push for the Honey Monster.

AI Rushmore by Microsoft CoPilot: Any time we do a Rushmore featuring primarily cartoon characters the AI freaks out trying to make 3D interpretations of 2D characters then making them into stone heads.

Best realistic one (I generated maybe 40 of these and this is the only one that actually gave me something other than the real Mount Rushmore with the heads smiling):

Best one I got when I told it to make a cartoon. You can imagine the 5th figure is John Kellogg thinking about circumcision:

As for the throat goat... she lacked 1% of the courage Betty Ford had. She was certainly powerful, but did nothing about the threat of AIDS, even to the detriment of her friend Rock Hudson.

Wilson is mostly here because she basically ran the country at one point, and during that time pushed hard for women to be able to vote. That's pretty big.

Yes. And she ignored the Aids epidemic when Rock Hudson came to her. She also listened to astrologers. Throat Goat was not a profile in courage. She was the first lady who looked the other way.

Meanwhile Betty Ford voiced support for abortion rights and the equal rights amendment, and talked about addiction at a time where her husband's advisors definitely did NOT want her doing that.

I don't think you can have this one without Nancy Reagan, unfortunately. There's a strong argument to be made that she was the US' first female president.

Last one is close between Clinton and Obama, but I think Clinton has more of a legacy there. Give it 20 years and I might make that trade though.

No, it was actually Nancy Reagan's astrologer who made all the big decisions.

More serious answer: It's debatable at best to say RR was mentally incapable of carrying out his duties during his presidency, and even if he was there's no good evidence that Nancy was controlling everything.

It certainly feels weird not including Martha Washington or Abigail Adams, as well as picking four Democrats as someone who leans right (sorry Barbara), but Clinton had an extremely successful political career of her own that very nearly resulted in her becoming President, and the other three have been such huge social figures and women all over the world to this day cite them as their heroes. Bush is a tier or so below them in this regard, and Washington and Adams have the disadvantage of being pre-television.

Yeah, there's certainly a school of thought that there was a group of cabinet officers/advisors that were actually running things during Reagan's last several years, but Nancy wasn't one of them, and she never consulted her astrologer about policy decisions. Her astrology consultations were real, but they were used to determine what dates and times Reagan should leave/arrive for trips and the like, rather than for anything related to actual policy.

tbh I haven't spent much time researching either so I can't speak on this with authority, I just know (some) historians make the argument about Reagan. I'm sure others do about Wilson but I've gotta plead ignorance on that.

This ones really tricky but here would be my answers

Abigail Adams - an absolutely vital primary source for the founding and a staunch abolitionist and feminist far far ahead of her time

Dolly Madison - a tad overrated for sure but she was absolutely vital to the establishment of culture and arts in the District of Columbia

Eleanor Roosevelt - the very model of the modern activist first lady and still the best, absilutrly vital to the advancement of labor unions womens rights and civil rights.

Betty Ford - she is a large part of the inspiration for the First Lady on thr West Wing and she was incredible. Single handedly dragged the Ford administration to the left on drugs, womens rights, civil rights, abortion. The real ones know Betty Ford was a bad ass.

I will not be voting for:
Edith Wilson - I mean she was basically president so thats cool plus she was a huge part of advocating for Wilson to reject womens suffrage, which he overruled her on. She was also a lost cause pro confederscy activisr.

Hillary Clinton

Gonna have to give credit to the only First Lady to become a Senator, Secretary of State, and winner of the popular vote in a national election for President. She was elected, selected, and neglected in very high-profile ways that had impacts years after her time as First Lady.

Don't know about the rest right now, may come back later.
