There are plenty of other factors, but its only recently that mangaka have been allowed to take a break for health reasons, as things like that back in the 90s/early 2000s it really wasn't a thing. If you didn't regularly publish, your work wouldn't get featured. So, it wouldn't surprise me if they were neglecting their personal health at the same time.
