I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Yesterday's results saw a much closer battle than the Bug-types, because Gen IX drew a lot of people in with the Ruin Quartet. But ultimately, it was just not enough to overcome the originator of the typing, as Gen II squeaked out a win with 18 votes to 17. Both seem like solid options

For today's contest, we're doing Dragon-types. They've long been the rare pinnacle of the Pokemon world, even if their power has ebbed and flowed over the years since the first generation. Given Gen VI's limited roster, I have folder Mega Evolutions into their list, as those were, effectively, some of the new Pokemon created in lieu of brand new designs for Gen VI. I'll keep the same concept for later typings as well. Note: I will not be considering things like Dialga/Palkia's form changes in Gen VIII, as those are still technically the same in the way Giratina's form change was back in Gen IV.

3 and 6 are the only lineups I really like, and even with 6, the Megas are pulling a lot of the weight.

Voting 6.

Gen I's trio is perfect...but there are only three of them.

Gen II is obviously a no.

Gen III does well, but Altaria/Bagon/Shelgon aren't good enough, and Salamence is one of my least favorite pseudos.

Gen IV's legendaries are awful.

Gen V's legendaries are awful, PLUS Deino/Zweilous/Druddigon.

Gen VI has some really good mega evolutions, but some flaws, and I'm not the biggest fan of the Goodra line.

Gen VII has far more misses than hits across the board.

Gen VIII has some big misses with Dreepy, the fossils, and Appletun.

Gen IX is very feast or famine with some of the options here, especially since I'm not a huge fan of the DLC paradoxes.

Ultimately, I think I've gotta go with VI, because it's one of the most through typings that small roster has to offer.

Even without a number of good Mega Evolutions, VI still wins for me. Goomy and Tyrunt lines, Noibat, and Zygarde are all great, and Dragalge is pretty cool too.

IX is close. Miraidon, the Frigibax line, Hydrapple (missing from poll list) and Raging Bolt are also great, and Tatsugiri is neat.

yeah, I guess dragon is my least favorite type?

Gen IV, I guess. Palkia/Dialga are not my favorite, but they're passable.

idk why im not big on dragon types when i was a dragon kid growing up. and i like the idea of the type being a mix of goofy guys and "real" dragons. but i just don't really like the type?? i don't really know why it doesn't make sense.

4 and 5 have what's probably my favourite spreads, though i understand why 6 is getting so much love.

I am super not a fan of dragon types after a few generations causing me salt until Fairy came along and slapped them upside the head, somewhat. Thus, this one came down to which gen had the least annoying ones for me- which disqualifies 1-3 by default (Flygon and Rayquaza can not make up for the sins that are Lati@s and Salamence.) Gen 4 and 5 both stumble from their legendaries, and gen 7 stumbles with everything that isnt Naganadel for me. That leaves 6, 8, and 9, and I just have to appreciate the puns of a very light dragon named after Duralumin, the wyrm in the apple, and the general coolness of a ghost dragon in Dragapult.

Dragon types suck huh.

I think they're hampered a lot by legendaries being meh. Pretty much every gen has one good mon or line, and then everything else varies from meh to dreadful. Voted 4 because the Gible line is amazing and the ratio of good to meh is higher than any other gen, but 2 and 6 are also decent enough. Gen 9 has so many good additions but the dragons are almost all bad.

I went for 6, but it kinda feels like cheating because of all the Megas. Like Gen 3 has a strong lineup and then they're all there in a way in Gen 6 (except lolFlygon). Granted I generally like their Gen 3 forms better, but Mega Altaria is amazing and then you have stuff like Mega Charizard X before we even get into Kalos's actual native roster of dragons.

Nearly voted for Gen 4 just because I love the Gible line that much, but I went with 3 since I like the legendaries better and Flygon/Salamence/Altaria is a solid trio

6 and 9 are really good too. 8 has two superb Dragons in Dragapult and Flapple but those stupid fossils really drag it down

voted 4 but 3 and 6 were compelling. it's just a shame 6 was also the gen dragon got hit with the (fairy-shaped) nerf, so various mons gaining the type in mega form didn't exactly come across as a good thing to me. and i guess this is mostly a me thing but i don't really care about bagon/shelgon, and i like trapinch more than vibrava/flygon. so yeah that's why i went with 4 in the end

Gen 6 is pretty easily the best here even discounting the megas. Dragalge, Noivern, and Tyrantrum are all really damn good, and I don't see any other Gen up there that has three Dragons on par with those three.
