^ 6 ruined this a lot. They implemented this dumb Renbu system and made a lot of clone fighters. One of my friends was a big Seong sui yun (got the name wrong, I did do a quick search) but she used to use chakrams and then in six she just got a bow, like some other now generic characters. I don't even remember one thing DW6 added at the moment that was better. It was uhh in HD and I guess you could climb walls and it had battering rams? DW6 wasn't a good game. A total step down from 5.

6E fixed pretty much everything that was wrong with 6's combat. 6E is one of the best Empire games, imo.

Yeah, thats why I was also turned off by dynasty warriors 6, 7 (7 did bring back a good deal of unique movesets, but there was still too many clones in this game also), and one of the factors why I completely ignored 9.
Dynasty warriors 8 xtreme legends complete is the one you want where every single character has a unique moveset. (Although I do think its goofy how huang gai got stuck with a boat, lol).

6E brought back a lot of unique movesets too. They realized how bad 6 was, revamped it with 6 Special and then made a really good game with 6E.

it was one of my favorite series. Probably had the most fun with three, but have played 2,4,5,6,7,8 and samurai 1 and 2 along with the orochi games. I always thought Star Wars would have been a great franchise to have a warriors game.

Huang Gai's moveset is hilarious and based though. Just this ripped old dude surfing around and all three of his musou attacks are wrestling moves. Love that beautiful old mad man.

Speaking of old dudes though, if there's a next game in the series then they need to make Liao Hua playable for fuck's sake. Was literally serving Shu for its entire existence, I wanna play as that guy dammit, not some fictional fuck boy like Guan Suo or his annoying fictional girlfriend Bao Sanniang, or that other fictional fuck boy Zhou Cang.

Lmao, I love the characters with grapples in general, we definitely need more of them. (I am actually kind of upset dynasty warriors 8 empires moved those emai piercers over to wang yi. Wang yi is like my favorite DW8 character and I really like her trishula+the pretty hot musou where you sit on someone to stab them. Return to trishula for the next entry goddammit).

Speaking of making old dudes who have been serving their kingdoms for ages but is taking them forever to become a actual unique character compared to a generic/NPC, I loved how after all these games cheng pu finally made playable status.......but the warriors game he debuted in is crappy dynasty warriors 9. Like some old monkey's paw type shenanigans.

I tend to miss out on a lot of the empires games so I never noticed it fixed up part 6's combat.

I think the last empires game I remember playing to completion was samurai warrior 2's on the xbox 360. Unified japan as ranmaru mori.

zhou cang has irl cache though I could see why he made the game. Agreed about Liao hua tho

Traditionally they wouldn't have any of these crazy weapons. It would be bows, swords, halberds and pikes

3,4,and especially 5 are the best 6th gen DWs the ps2 versions are better because the XL expansions are only available on ps2. Same with samurai warriors 1, you can get 2 and its expansion on ps2 and 360

8 complete ( the one on switch) is the best modern console release

I started with DW2 and fell in love with it. Played every mainline game since. Samurai Warriors too. I strongly prefer the PS2 era of DW games though. I miss the whole unlocking characters' ultimate weapons. I remember unlocking Zhao Yun's weapon randomly in DW3 (I already knew how unlocking weapons worked, but it was a new game file for whatever reason) by playing Chang Ban on hard mode for the hell of it. Think I was doing his musou mode. Think that was the only time I unlocked an ultimate weapon without using a guide (or even trying to unlock it lol).

some day i'll get back to hyrule warriors, three hopes, and DW8CE PS4

I still play Hyrule Warriors DE. I finished the OG challenge map on my Wii U and now I'm doing it all again.

If koei could remaster 3 and release it on ps5 that would be great

I don't remember dynasty warriors having a lot of late era wu officers playable (not unless even more was added in DW9 or DW9 empires that I forgot about). Shu has a good deal of late-era officers, but wu is a little lacking in that area. Might be something they need to try to fix for a part 10.

I like to think that I'm not too picky when it comes to what I want for a new dynasty warriors....all I ask is for no clones, a good story mode (most of my favorite musou modes come from the old PS2 games), wang yi to get her trishulas back because I admit I am a bit biased with that, and for the series in general to get a samurai warriors 5 kind of art style and design make-over for some of the characters. Like they have been riding the simpleton xu zhu design for far too long and its time that gets a complete do-over.
