For a while, I have been trying to wrap my head on 'diversity' and trying to figure out the nuance. I do have my theory, but I want to ask both the woke and anti-woke campaign on why some are cool and some are not cool.

Like WWE, has pushed for more diversity. They pushed the spotlight on women more and made women not necessarily cover up, but more serious and less lookat me, I am sexy. There was also the campaign of getting more black heavyweight champion. I didn't really hear any BIG complaints, not to say there were little.
But I then see stuff like "Disney is woke" they have gone broke. What could it be?

"Diversity" without specifics in mind is usually just marketing for an obscure and ill defined general audience, and not actually addressing anything effectively. It's often just marketing lingo meant to smooth over and bury actual problems preventing specific groups of people from participating or being served or whatever.

On that note, complaining about "diversity" can be a bit of a red flag to say the least, because the problem with all the talk of diversity is obviously not "there is diversity now".

Damn, never really thought about that.

I can definitely see that. I had someone at my workplace complain about diversity and they would give the guy funny stare and they would look at me funny.

To be fair with WWE things were so obviously bad before it was pretty hard to argue for the status quo.

But overall this stuff is mostly due to reactionaries looking for content to get outraged over. Disney has Marvel and Star Wars. That's a lot more engagement that the WWE would get.

Was this after the attitude era?

Oh yeah it was still very much there.

It's also a trickier thing to actually get people outraged over as women's matches were mostly terrible for years. It was hard to argue that keeping the scantily clad women for Bra and Panties matches was better for the product to wrestling smarks and it's obvious that women who wanted to be taken seriously were being held back by guys like Vince McMahon.

Nerds for movies are a lot easier to give targets to as most of it is speculation and we don't know who the Vince McMahon's of Hollywood are in the same way.
