Board 8 > Anyone had luck with a missing mail search at USPS?

Ordered a couple of One Piece trading cards a couple of weeks ago that should have arrived last week. The tracking system said they were out for delivery, but then said it was in the wrong zip code (literally one zip code away from me) and was "forwarding" the package to my correct zipcode. after 5 days with no new updates, I called both my post office and the post office in the wrong zip code and neither were able to locate it. I filed a service request about the issue, and after two days I received a notice that they were unable to track it down and that I should file a missing mail search request. It's been about three days since I did that with no new updates.

The package was sent as a bubble mailer with insurance, if that makes any difference.

Has anyone been through this process before? Is there any hope the package will actually turn up at this point? How long should I wait before going back to the seller/paypal for a refund (I'm currently going to give the missing mail search a full 7 days and then get a refund)?

Actually surprisingly yes. It's happened twice and both times were successful. I sell on Ebay which is when I've used it, to track down packages I had shipped out myself. One was a priority with insurance while the other was media mail with no insurance and it didn't make a difference. Both times the package showed up literally the next day I submitted the request.

It's really up to you how long you want to wait. Communicate with the seller. As a seller, this means everything to me. And it's nice as a seller to get a bit of patience / grace period from a buyer.

Yeah, I've been in contact with the seller to explain up to this point. Haven't mentioned refunding yet in hopes it doesn't reach that point though, but there's effectively been no movement from this package in nearly two weeks.

Yeah two weeks is a pretty lengthy time. I think then giving the missing search a full week is the right course. It's a tough thing on both sides but sometimes there's no choice.

update: the seller underinsured the item and is begging me to wait a full three months before submitting a dispute to paypal

thinking i will give him another week to be nice, knowing that the paypal dispute will probably take a couple weeks anyway

A full three months, hell no. I'd never say something like that as a seller.

Don't be soft. He's trying to run you out of your chargeback window.

on paypal G&S the chargeback window is actually 6 months so that in particular isn't a concern

he's obviously trying to stall for time though, maybe i'll just give it through this friday
