See what used to happen is you would look up a thing and youtube would find for you as many videos as it could specificallly related to that specific thing, specifically. So you could type in "blue teddy bears in a swimming pool dancing" and you'd find as many videos of blue teddy bears in a swimming pool dancing as youtube could find. Lots of homegrown content to really make sure you could find the video you were looking for. Maybe different angles, different iterations, different uploads. Just lots of things of the thing you wanted.

At some point youtube decided this was terrible and bad and not what we all wanted, so now we have this new kind of search. You look up "blue teddy bears in a swimming pool dancing" and your results are 2 videos related to your search (as long as they are less than a week old), some ads about where you can buy teddy bears (and also Huel), a katy perry video featuring some bunny rabbits (not blue ones) and a bunch of completely unrelated results of things that you looked at yesterday. If there were any user-shot videos of the clip you wanted then I'm sorry, but fuck you. If it wasn't uploaded by Teddy Bears Inc you won't get it.

This is SO great, I love this. Thank you youtube.

I've also noticed when you refresh your youtube page a lot of the time it doesn't even put new videos in. It will sometimes show the EXACT same ones. Like wtf are they thinking.

I haven't had this problem. Sounds like a skill issue

Srsly though. Ive been using YouTube without an account recently and like a 3rd of the videos i get ring wing ragebait videos. Despite me never searching anything of relation; the opposite really.

My favorite is looking for a specific video I know exists. Type in the channel name and the name of the video (like for movie reviews) but it doesn't come back. Wonder if it maybe got de-listed or removed for some reason. Nope, just doesn't show up. So now I have to go to the channel and scroll down over 100 videos to find what a decent seach engine would have given me.

Nice idea, but I wish it were customizable. I only want to fix the search results and get rid of mixes. But it seems to nuke community posts from the home page (which is the ONLY way I see those because Youtuber refuses to put them in the sub feed) regardless of which toggles I set.

Oh they know what they're doing. They just stopped caring about making a good product and instead focused all of their attention on making a product that peddles advertisement revenue for their shareholders.

Google doesn't want you to search for things you want to find anymore, it wants you to be served content it thinks you will spend money on.

yeah, the search results are pretty terrible now. if the thing you're looking for is very popular, then it's not really too big of a deal, but if you're looking for something kinda fringe or something, good luck.

when i'm searching for stuff like that now, i'll often just sort it by newest video, which does help, as long as there's still new content being made.

This topic and my internet getting worse topic should honestly be stickied. There's no way this complaint hasn't been spread on social media and gained traction by now, it's crazy that they keep getting away with it.

I did see they were testing some new (read: worse) UI on some users. Mine is fine, for now.

Oh my god it looks AWFUL on my PC. The icons on the right side are 3 times as big and ruin the video. If you scroll to the comments they assume you want the GD playing video to stay OVER the top of the comments.

I somehow got rid of this before and I can't figure out how I did it.

Crono motivated me to try to find an old SWG video, set to REMs the end of the world as we know it yesterday (him finding impossibly old shit).

It would have been perfect for current events.

but, I got what tc described instead and gave up after an hour and a half.

"Here's one semi-related video and then a bunch of videos WE want you to watch that have FUCK ALL to do with what you're searching for"

Also, there will be ads in every fucking video now, even if it only has like 100 views

I like it because no matter what I search, I end up getting the far-left And far-right opinion on the topic for my first 50 or so results.

They're slowly turning into redirect malware. I remember ages ago when I tried to search for something, only for the redirect to say "Nah you don't want what you actually searched for. How about you click these dubious sponsor ads instead".

Guess they're bringing back the early 00s.

ADDING to the bitch fest of how shitty YouTube has gotten.

What really grinds my gears lately is when youre using the app and having to sit through the Ads (which sucks but I get it) but theres always a fucking banner that pops up, blocking you from hitting the skip ad button. It forces you to fuck around and rotate your phone from landscape to portrait just to dodge this annoying banner.

I'm literally not getting any of this. What are y'all searching for?

Don't ever use a website app. Just use Brave mobile.

i bet nobody even manages it. it's probably some ai software thing that took over like years ago and they just have it on autopilot

I didn't click it obvious, but there were these shirtless men with their hands tied behind their back and there were two guard looking people behind them.

That and something horrible that the algorithms always push on people, like something having to do with Republican/alt right politics. Or something really horrible like a news story about bear poaching, a shit ton of bears being killed by some disease or starvation, or a story about a bear cub whose leg got maimed in a bear trap.
Also, possibly some grossout video like a live bear with bot flies in its flesh, or a story about a guy who got trichinosis from eating undercooked bear meat (not that I have a problem with those ones)

Oh, and don't forget boring-ass investment videos (bear market)

It makes zero sense. They allow absolutely anything to be advertised.

There's a browser extension called Blocktube that can be used to block videos and channels from your feed/searches. You can add title words and/or channel names to the Filter Options screen and after that they should not show in results or anywhere else.
