Also, CE got the LUE treatment where only accounts currently active can get in and any future accounts can't. Though unlike LUE you also permanently lose access if you get hit with Purgatory.

So, once CE bleeds out, it'll just be banned everywhere.

I've had the politics tag blocked since it was an option, but I really dislike the precedent being set here of banning topics outright, especially with the insanely heavy-handed way they're handling CE. (Which is a cesspit to be sure, but still.) If you look at what they're actually saying and consider what the overall mission of Fandom is there's little doubt that this board itself is going to be shuttered some day to spare them a rounding error, which really sucks.

I've felt this board was on borrowed time for a while now, but now I'm scared it really will just poof away one day.

And everyone will scatter and that will be it.

also good move bringing this out of the politics topic because i kinda ignored it since coming back and would've been confused.

like i said there too, this move really makes little sense because there isn't a good way to define a line between politics and news. or data/studies and politics. and what about other countries? like i'm going to Argentina soon, you're damn right i'm paying attention to the politics of a country going through a political revolution right now. it's literally affecting the ability of travelers.

As someone who hates discussing politics and any time I saw a political topic on this board i wanted to puke, this sets a very dangerous precedent. Fandom truly will be the death of this site.

Admin. TC has to wait a few minutes of no new posts. At least that's how it used to be.

Just how bad this is will depend on what is considered "politics". Like, conservatives try their hardest to make anything about non-cis-white-hetero men to be political, so are topics about LGBTQ news gonna be deemed political and thus banned?

They made a pro-trans post at the same time, so that's definitely not political.

This is a good thing. Too often topics get derailed with politics posting. There are some subreddits I used that have been banning all political posts for years now, and they got infinitely better when they implemented that.

Depends on which subreddits you are talking about, I don't think it's fair to compare.
Like, banning politics on Undertale subreddit makes perfect sense because it's dedicated to Undertale
But banning politics in a general social board...? not so much (unless someone think we should only talk about contests, which it isn't the case thanksfully)

see i can understand this kind of policy for game boards, as intrusive as it is.
but if it's a social board then certain politics affects your daily life. today is tax day, that's politics. it's an election year, that's politics. the situation in Haiti, politics. if you live in/are traveling to Israel, anything related to going outside is connected to politics. if you live in/are traveling to Argentina, anything going on financially and outside is politics.

at the risk of accidentally saying something political, I feel I need to point out that we now live in a country with a conservative-leaning Supreme Court that very well could reverse rulings regarding gay marriage. Its still a political issue in this country whether or not any of us here would like for it to be.

Indeed, a SCOTUS where justices on the court have publicly and repeatedly stated a desire to reverse those rulings.

i mean we can go into other areas too with current SCOTUS.
like hey, states have different abortion policies going on. sure was wild what happened with Alabama right? or is that too political to cover, despite being extremely newsworthy?

was mentioned earlier but taxes are always relevant and it's tax day today. political or fine?
while we're at it, are economic topics fine somehow? like if i want to talk about how wild it is that the Argentine Peso's blue market rate is so different from the legally mandated official exchange rate, is that politics or is it ok because economics =/= politics?

What about discussing the politics of a given video game? Do we just have to shut down all discussion of, say, Metal Gear Solid or Disco Elysium?

This feels very 1984ish. This felt like one of the few safe places left to talk about politics at all. Especially certain issues.

I was gonna respond to KP in the now closed topic, but this is the obvious unfortunate side effect of a decision I largely agree with.

However, we have moderators for a reason -- to clean anything up if someone decides to be a jackass. Gay people can get married now and SCOTUS decided years ago they have equal rights, so this is not some debatable point and anyone who thinks otherwise isn't worth the effort to talk to.

That wouldn't mean anything if Fandom wanted to take a safe "neutral" side that doesn't upset the rightwingers (which is of course decidedly not neutral at all). But based on the trans rights post that was also made today, that luckily does not seem to be the case at the moment.

...as someone who'd much rather discuss games than political stuff, I'm not really comfortable with banning all politics discussion altogether. Having one topic to put that in like on this board that I'd mostly ignore seemed like a decent solution.
