i mean i can't blame him for starting to collapse if he's actually engaging with people because it's an untenable position. even by its own framework, definitions purposefully don't exist and explanations, unfortunately, keep the parts people are talking about vague and with unknown standards. you can't actually argue for the rule when the rule doesn't actually exist in any clear way and is admitted to having no reasonable definition that can apply, you can only shove it through. argument and conversation demand reason, the new rule explicitly lacks it.

tbh I almost sympathize with him as a person on this whole mess and having to be the sacrificial damage control lamb.

But he's getting paid for it so nah not actually.

And what's with them making a feedback topic and saying "our mind is made up, we won't change the plan based on user input, we just want to hear your responses for fun".

But even within games lets say a developer unionises, is that political? Would we be allowed to discuss the Xbox/Activision merger? Thats political. Or like say when a certain former President of the United States blamed a tragedy on video games and met with a bunch of executives? That was pretty political.

At best this seems like a fools errand.

I feel like this rule is barely going to be enforced outside of the initial Politics topic purge. Like have any of us gotten modded since this went into effect? How does an understaffed mod team even begin to address this when it's so broad it actually INCREASED the scope of their work? Although posts might randomly still get deleted.

"One day maybe we'll give out $300k bounties because of this" only has two possible excuses for being a message. Active animosity or total ignorance.

It is not possible to make a statement like that from a genuine place.

yikes. I wonder what they think they're saving - gamefaqs isn't bringing in new people or content and the only thing left are vets who have been here for decades. they're just burning down the remains of what's still standing here. if this happened like 15 years ago, I would have been devastated - but now it's just kinda funny.

I did make the News topic to try to have some sense of normalcy. I think the former Politics topic WAS a nice place to get news.

The Minecraft topic is kind of mentally exhausting but people seemed to take to it, so, <shrug>.

No way are people keeping up the Minecraft parody shtick forever. They'll just start posting normally within the next few days.

"Scum" was recently ruled by the UK courts to be a reasonable way to discuss a political actor's beliefs, so I'm glad to say it's not inflammatory. It is political, however, so I'm afraid it looks like we'll have to shut this whole operation down. Fandom policy.

lol. My first thought was also "Is this DToast's version of blinking twice?" It looks like this was run on the same day in 2022, so probably just a coincidence, but funny that they didn't bother to change it.

Finally read through the second feedback topic. Kinda regret I wasn't around during the time it was open since it was actually getting responded to... even if I don't think I'd get a productive response. Not sure we'll get a third one either.

Like, despite my cynical and negative feelings towards this decision and basically the entire response towards, I'm perfectly willing to try and talk it out with them even if I can't imagine getting anywhere. It doesn't really help that like a good 2/3's of the replies are basically non-constructive venting... which, again, I get but... it all just sucks. =/

I think we only got the second topic because of DToast and I think they probably took him out back and shot him in the head after they found out he had said they'd revisit the issue in the future.

100% not getting a third one.
