Square refuses to remaster classics like Xenogears and Brave Fencer Musashi. The base versions aren't even available on the PS Store.

Meanwhile physical games do degrade over time. Even under ideal conditions, your PS1 discs probably aren't going to work when you are 80.

This makes me realize we grew up in a very special time. Some games will never be digitized and remastered to the new systems. Games like Clock Tower (PS1) or Time Commando are just these games that pretty much have no hope of ever being placed on modern consoles. Capcom has totally turned its back on Breath of Fire. We are lucky to have Syphon Filter on the PS Store now, but will that carry over to the PS6?

The gaming industry is responsible for making sure these games aren't lost to history, like old black and white films. They should preserve our culture. Do you agree that they need to take measures to preserve these PS1 era games that are in danger of being lost?

Yes, they should do more to preserve games. The fans do more work in that regard than the devs do.

How many movies from like the 1920s are lost to time?

We grew up pretty much at the infancy of gaming. Gaming was basically brand new in the 70s.

They still exist digitally and can be played through emulation so that's something. I agree that devs needs to do more though. It's scary that things are better overall now. There was a time when developers would just delete source code and assets after games shipped.
