Not really a fan of their food tbh. They tend to keep their ingredients in the rawest state possible. Its like getting gourmet food made by Smeagol.

i like how one of the more common isekai superpowers is to somehow be able to zap away all the parasites and bacteria in raw fish so they can safely eat them in their rawest state possible

I freaking love tonkotsu pork ramen. Whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant I have trouble deciding what to order, because I kind of want to try something new that I may or may not like, but I know that I love tonkotsu.

I tend to like their broth dishes - ramen, udon, soba, shabu shabu, etc. A lot of their meat dishes are sensational as well - karaage, yakiniku, wagyuu steak, and so on. Hell, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal in Japan, so long as it was served after noon.

I think I tend to eat more Korean food than Japanese. Korean ramyeon is way better than Japanese ramen, and I think I like kimbap better than sushi.

That's because korean food has the flavor of chinese food, but the convenience of japanese food.

There's plenty of cooked food in Japanese cuisine but a defining element of quite a lot of it is either raw or unaltered (such as dried or fermented) ingredients. Trying to dunk on someone for pointing that out makes you look like a fool.

I really hope you're comparing ramyeon to instant ramen, in which case whatever. But I can't help being judgmental when people compare it to actual ramen. Ramyeon is fine but it basically just does one thing while actual ramen has so many varieties and flavours.

They're both wheat noodles my man. There are different flavors, yes. But saying ramyeon is all one thing is ignorant to korean noodles.

Okonomiyaki can't go wrong with that. Sushi is great, teriyaki and omurice like someone else said was good.

Donburi, negimaki is delicious too.

Eel bowls mmmm.

Most japanese cuisine is great.

Can't go wrong with rice balls/onigiri, fuck even the basic ass sandwiches from 7/11 are good. Melon pan/bread, curry pan.

LAWSON FRIED CHICKEN.

Man why you gotta remind me of my trip to japan.

Take it from someone who spent the better part of a year there, the idea that all Japanese food is raw is a western myth. At some point 30 years ago or so, someone decided that sashimi was the only thing that Japanese people ate and for some reason this perception just will not die.

No moreso than western cuisine (unless you think that all sandwiches are made with cooked ingredients or something?).

Again, trying to paint this like it's a Japanese thing is laughably inaccurate.

Instant ramen and freshly made ramen are not really the same thing. I'm being kind of dramatic by saying I'm judgmental of people that prefer the junk version but to me its clearly vastly inferior.

And ramyeon is kind of deliberately a one-note product. It only exists as dried noodles with flavor packets. Which is fine and enjoyable but its simple. If you're expanding "Korean noodles" into , , , and stuff then that's a completely different conversation.

BBQ salmon heads are my go-to and they're usually quite cheap

Otherwise I love me some nigiri and udon, however it's hard to find a good authentic ramen place.

Onigiri is good, depending on what's inside. Had a Japanese beef bowl that I like to order from time to time but don't remember its name. Recently a Japanese dessert shop opened in our area and sells these Japanese cookies shaped like fish (not sure what the name of those are either) and souffle pancakes.

^If they're actually cookies then I'm not sure, but I know the pastries shaped like fish with some kind of filling are called taiyaki. Also I really want to try one of those souffle pancakes sometime. I've been trying to find a place in town that sells them.

Taiyaki? Maybe. I know in korea there were Samanco which were fish shaped cone with ice cream and bean paste inside. Absolutely delicious.

Oh hey, the perfect topic for me. I'm haafu, so I might end up rambling a bit about my favorite dishes hahaha.

My mom makes this thing called 'omuretsu-modoki' which basically translates to 'replacement-omelet'. It's seasoned ground beef with onions, nutmeg, garlic, fried in a big wok, and then we pour scrambled egg on top so it hardens into a sort of pie-kinda shape. We cut it into triangles and eat it with rice n some veggies. It's simple and really fuckin' tasty.

Lotus root (renkon) is another contender...it's crunchy, and when you cook it properly in a frypan with soy sauce and mirin and maybe a bit of sugar, it's so delicious. More of a side-dish rather than a main thing, but I could eat it every day and never tire of it.

Snack-wise, I really enjoy umeboshi, especially the ones with honey. So salty and sour but also sweet, and it's got this super intense flavour that can straight up never be replicated. I really like warabimochi too, it's perfect for summer.

Final dish I'll write about is daikon miso soup. I don't know what it is about daikon but I go insane for it. Yeah it kinda smells like cabbage when you cook it, and you can always tell when your neighbor's been cooking it, but it's SO freaking good in any way you prepare it. In miso soup is my favourite though, with some green onions and maybe a bit of tofu...

I'm glad this topic was posted. It gave me a chance to wax poetic about the food I like :-P
