Me over here like "what are some basic simple improvements I can make to my desk space", not knowing there's an entire cult that is devoted to a specific kind of noise that the keyboard shall make and will throw away everything in service of the thocc gods

yeah, i don't get people who are super into mechanical keyboards. i don't even see the need to have one, and i don't want my keyboard to be any louder than it already is.

I got memed into buying a corsair k70 like 5 years back. Realised I had just paid 3 figures for a noisy glow in the dark toy that was more annoying to type on than the most basic $20 wireless keyboard from amazon.

I've brought it out of storage and am trying it out again to see if it will grow on me. The keys fly off at the barest nudge and it clacks with an almighty din, but I guess its not all that terrible. I want to change some basic things to make it feel better without going down the soddering route.

yeah, I've got a k55 RGB, i don't imagine it was much more than $80-100, and it still works great, no complaints at all. I bought that and a Scimitar Pro at the same time, also about 5 years ago - ended up having to replace the mouse a couple years later cuz the scroll wheel died. (that particular model was known for this, apparently)

Because aint no one that has a 60% keyboard is doing any actual work without a number pad.

Thats because most of the keys a TKL doesnt have are not used most of the time, and they force your right arm too far over, which is bad ergonomics when using a mouse.

You can get a separate mechanical number pad and put it out of the way except when you need it, or just learn to type using the number row.

It's not so much the sound but the typing feels. Personally I use brown switches, thankfully they're fairly quiet switches. My wife should be happy that it's not blues that feel the best for me :P

Yeah. Browns are the tip of the iceberg. I use Zealios V2 65g (though in hindsight I wish Id gotten 67g) and the tactile feel is much better.

I'm hooked on browns because I got very comfy with their feel back in the day before we had as much switch choice as today. I've tried out typing with a number of other switches at this point but browns still feel the best for me probably because I've been using them so long now.

This is me. Got a nice $85 full sized ducky one 2 for my home office and love it. Don't feel the need to spend $600 to build one from scratch or $30 on a space bar. I like checking out the MK subreddit though to see the wild keyboard designs people come up with.

Eh, I've used my first mechanical keyboard for now over ten years... Which is odd because I do not hear good things about Razer product reliability, but I've gotten lucky with this mouse/keyboard combo I got back in like 2012.

(I'm planning on replacing it when it dies, if it dies at this point lol)

There are dedicated programs to properly uninstall stuff FWIW. It just for this, but in general. Revo Uninstaller and Geek Uninstaller are a couple. Most programs leave around a ton of crap when you install them.

I just need a decent keyboard that my fingers won't slip on or wonder if I hit the right key.

I don't need the buckling spring or Cherry Red sound every time I type a letter.

? Yes it does. I didnt invent that. Its pretty evident if you just stick your arms out straight and look at where they naturally rest.

The irony is that a number pad on the left side of the keyboard is very useful for hotkeys in gaming, but barely any keyboards do that. A separate numpad gives you that flexibility though.

I bought a Logitech G613 the last time I updated my desk setup. Its got some proprietary Logitech key that doesn't have great sound quality but also isn't super loud... fortunately noise cancelling headphones pretty much completely drown it out once get to typing at a reasonable pace.

In terms of comfort and feedback it's great though.

I never got the love for mechanical keyboards. Maybe it's because that was all there was for the longest time so I used them for several years when I was younger. The noise would also be loud enough to keep up my parents in the next room so I always wanted something quiet.

I'm not knocking them for people who like them or anything though.

Had them for years and have no desire to look back. I've fallen in love recently with Razer Greens so I think when/if I have to replace this it'll be with something clicky. I also gotta jump on the keypad train, I'd really not like a tenkeyless. I do remember a Microsoft keyboard from when I was younger that had a detachable numpad that could also slot on either side. I thought it was a pretty cool concept.

Unless i'm working in excel I don't need a 10-key. I bought a cheap 65% keyboard and have never gone back. The amount of desk space I get back by not having a 10 key I would barely use, is a blessing. I would go with less noisy key switches, but you get what you pay for.
