it's currently ATX and running a 3000 series AMD CPU which is noooot doing great with Windows 11 and the fuckin like million years it's been running

so like that'd go, probably get a 7800X3D, would obviously have to get a new mobo to fit and RAM cuz the socket changed and DDR+1'd. probably a new cooler too, likely AOI water for small form factor?

i have storage, gpu, possibly PSU (if i can find a small case that will fit a normal sized PSU, not opposed to buying a smaller one tho), and periphs.

what are some neat small form cases that will fit a 3.5 slot card? i stupidly bought a stupidly large 3080ti and it runs just fine so absolutely do not feel the need to upgrade that.

I dont know, but I wouldnt recommend it as Ive watched a lot of SFF builds and thermals are always a problem one way or the other while theyre a massive pain to work in. The only reasons to really do it IMO are if you want to travel with it or you live in a shoebox apartment and dont have space for anything bigger.

If its never going to move and you have space for full ATX, just do that, as you get more PCIe slots, better thermals, better cooling, easier building, etc.

If youre dead set on it, I am a fan of Phanteks cases and they came out with a SFF case a year ago or so that looked interesting, but I cant remember the name of it.

Bear in mind, all this is for a gaming build. If you want a small server, some mini PCs are great for that depending on use case, and ITX / mATX builds are a lot more common, as you dont really have to worry about a GPUs heat.

It's not very small but I transplanted my old(ish) gaming PC (2070 Super, 3900x) to a Thermaltake 200. That requires mini-ITX and it looks like a 3d printer lol. Also fits a regular ATX PSU

SFF isn't worth it. Just go MATX in a good MFF case. Noise levels will skyrocket in a tiny case with high end parts as the fans struggle to do anything.

but why

when I bought my desk I did like 2 weeks of searching specifically to find one that my full size PC would fit under and still give me leg room

it's been almost 3 years and I've yet to smash my foot through the glass side panel
